Mixing the 1980s with more than a few robotic enemies, Generation Zero will soon be hitting Xbox One, PS4 and PC – and today that all-important release date has been revealed.

26th March 2019 is the date you need to stick in your diaries as that is when Avalanche Studios – they of Just Cause 4 – and THQ Nordic will be launching the open-world action game Generation Zero onto Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Thrusting us into a world of 1980’s Sweden that is full of robotic enemies, Generation Zero will be found delivering us an experience in which the future meets the past, as we take in an explosive game of cat and mouse in a huge open environment.

Generation Zero is all about a time in which hostile machines have invaded the serene countryside, and it is up to you to fight back, all while unravelling the mystery of what is really going on. By taking in and utilizing some battle tested guerrilla tactics, you’ll be trying to lure, cripple, and destroy enemies across some intense, creative sandbox skirmishes.

No matter whether you go it alone, or prefer to team-up with up to three of your friends in the seamless cooperative multiplayer that is in place, you’ll need to combine unique skills in order to take down enemies, supporting downed friends by reviving them, and sharing in the loot after an enemy is defeated.

With Generation Zero on Xbox One, PS4 and PC, we’ll find that all enemies are persistently simulated in the world, roaming the landscape with both intent and purpose. And when you manage to destroy a specific enemy component – be it their armour, weapons or sensory equipment – the damage is permanent, ensuring that foes will be found bearing those scars until you face them again – minutes, hours or weeks later.

All of this will be played out with a world that is rendered using the award-winning Apex engine, seeing Generation Zero featuring a full day/night cycle with unpredictable weather, complex AI behaviour, simulated ballistics, highly realistic acoustics and a dynamic 1980’s soundtrack.

Apparently, living is winning and if you fancy doing a bit of that, then the March release date for Generation Zero on Xbox One, PS4 and PC can’t come soon enough.

If you can’t wait and wish to get your cash in early then Generation Zero is available to pre-order from today. Doing so will see you gaining access to the exclusive Radical Vanity Pack with 12 additional appearance customization options (t-shirts, bandanas, an iconic bomber jacket and more) to create a very unique ’80s look! The Standard Edition will launch on Xbox One and PS4 for £34.99 | €39.99 and on PC for £29.99 | €34.99.

Further to that though and if you are thinking of yourself as a real Generation Zero hero, then you may be interested in the Collector’s Edition from selected retailers, coming in at £74.99 | €79.99 | $79.99. This includes all of the following:

  • A premium steelbook game case
  • A cloth map of the game world
  • A t-shirt
  • A unique Generation Zero take on the traditional dala horse statue…and more.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
