Announced back in the early months of 2023, Goons: Legends & Mayhem has got something about it. Mostly a bit of Mario Strikers and a bit of Windjammers! Them’s good things though, yeah?
Available today on Xbox, PlayStation and PC, Goons: Legends & Mayhem from RageCure Games and Firestoke is an ice hockey game with a difference. Yep, it does away with the sim aspects of NHL and instead injects some Mario and Windjammers fun. Cartoony chaos is what comes out the other end.
It lands with support for anything between 1-6 players, as Goons: Legends & Mayhem works a hockey action experience, with 1 vs 1 up to 3 vs 3 matches in place. This play out across a variety of PvE and PvP modes, including a full story campaign.
Hit the ice and you’ll get the opportunity to choose from one of eight characters divided into three distinct classes – the attack focused sharpshooter, the defense oriented enforcer and the wingman, a wildcard that can either focus on supporting their team.
Take to the ice
Each character has their own special ability too. These include explosive mines, freezing opponents in a cube of ice and teleportation, adding an element of cartoony brawling to this hockey title where teamwork is the key to success.
The story campaign will see players taken on a varied journey across ice rinks nestled in forests, to floating ice rinks on the deck of a pirate ship as they try to stop the Grand Mascoteer’s mission to ruin hockey for everyone. On this epic adventure will be goaltender bosses, the chance to recruit unhinged heroes offering new ways to play, and opportunities to go gathering a variety of collectibles and cosmetic goodies.
There’s more though. Alongside the fun hockey gameplay, class-based characters and chaotic brawling abilities, even more depth is added by six environments for you to play with, each of which has its own special mechanics, environmental hazards and a goaltender to defeat.

- 1-6 PLAYER ACTION – Team up with another player in 2v2 hockey encounters against a single goaltender, or in a classic 3v3 mode to unleash full chaos. Communication is key, and your skills will make the difference between victory and defeat!
- 3 UNIQUE CLASSES, A BUNCH OF CHARACTERS – Pick the right character to craft a team strategy that will allow you to shoot and (hopefully) score! Choose characters from the Sharpshooter (attack), Enforcer (defense), or Wingman (support) classes. - RELENTLESS GOALTENDERS – Other players are not your only worry here, goalies will also do their best to ruin your best plays whenever possible. Be it long-range attacks, vicious mortar attacks, or melee charges, no expense is spared protecting the net.
- EXCITING REALMS – Goons offers a variety of environments to wreck your friends in, from the chilled coasts of a once-booming fish market, to the mythical realm of wizardry and legends. Each environment has its own special mechanics, environmental hazards, and goaltender to defeat.
- STORY MODE – Embark on a journey to save the Hockeyverse! Play solo and defeat mascots while trying to save the world from the Great Mascoteer, who’s trying to ruin hockey for everyone. Progress through the stages, unlock new characters, and investigate the turmoil that’s wreaking havoc on this unique hockey universe!
