If you haven’t managed to play through Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy on Game Pass, then we’re afraid the moment has passed. It’s included in the list of eight games that are leaving the service on Xbox and PC today, evaporating away as if Thanos clicked his fingers.
Those games are F1 2020 (Console, EA Play), Goat Simulator (Cloud, Console, and PC), Kentucky Route Zero (Cloud, Console, and PC), Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy (Cloud, Console, and PC), Paradise Killer (Cloud, Console, and PC), Undertale (Cloud, Console, and PC), Young Souls (Cloud, Console, and PC) and Zero Escape: The Nonary Games (Cloud, Console, and PC). From now on, you will need to purchase them to pick up from where you left off.
There are some silver linings. F1 2020 has been upgraded to F1 2022, which was added to Game Pass earlier this month. And you might want to get your kicks from Goat Simulator 3 rather than Goat Simulator – although it’s not on Game Pass. Fingers crossed for the future.
We’re going to miss Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. It may not have revolutionised combat, or even been the best Marvel game out there, but we enjoyed its camaraderie and wisecracking. We gave it a 4.5 out of 5 in review, saying “if only the bloody bugs didn’t cast a large shadow over it all, then Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy could’ve been a real surprise contender as the best game of the year. Still, it’s great fun to lead this bunch of rejects and you should seriously consider having a go at saving the galaxy”. If you consider that those bugs are largely gone through various patches, it’s a pretty healthy recommendation.
There are still some goodies to come from Game Pass in March. Sid Meier’s Civilization VI (Console, Cloud and PC) arrives on March 16th; Ni no kuni II: Rise of a New Kingdom – The Prince’s Edition (Console and PC) is here on March 21st; on March 28th you can expect MLB The Show 23 (Console); and on March 30th is the wonderful-looking Infinite Guitars (Console, PC).
There may be more games arriving (and more leavers too) as Microsoft tend to make announcements around the middle of the month. You will, of course, hear it from us as soon as that happens.
