Mixing Metal Slug with Top Gun, Dogfight: A Sausage Bomber Story shoots ’em up

If you come to market promising to combine two much loved entities, you’re going to have to be pretty sure of yourself. That’s the case as Dogfight: A Sausage Bomber Story starts shooting ’em up on PC and console, as it looks to take the best bits of Metal Slug and the thrills of Top Gun as its own.

Available to purchase and download right now on Xbox Series X|S (no Xbox One love-in here!), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC is Dogfight: A Sausage Bomber Story from Hound Picked Games and Katsu Entertainment.

Priced up at £14.99, Dogfight: A Sausage Bomber Story is one of those games that has been put together with more love and dedication than most. See, it builds on one of Katsu Entertainment’s first IPs, taking the 2013 release of Sausage Bomber before building it out in bigger, bolder ways.

More challenging than ever before, Dogfight: A Sausage Bomber Story hits Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC to tell the tale of how it was been a decade or so since the end of the Sausage war, as the Sausage Corps found victory. Now, we’re not really sure what a ‘Sausage War’ is, but it’s something we can get fully onboard with, as Lincolnshire goes up against Cumberland, Pork & Marmite and Toulouse. Throw in the odd bit of Venison or Wild Boar chipolata and that is a war of interest.

We’d suspect Dogfight: A Sausage Bomber Story doesn’t quite fulfil our sausage dreams though, instead focusing on how sausage weapon technology brought peace and huge growth in the fields of science, industry and medicine. It was this which was found ushering an unprecedented era of prosperity. Yet, from the shadows of the old world, a new threat rises: the terrorist organisation the Vega Nation!

What this means is that the Sausage Bomber corps must once again rise to protect the world, this time equipped with brand new Sausage based weaponry.

So what should you expect to find? Well, Dogfight: A Sausage Bomber Story works well for solo players, but also caters for those preferring to shoot with friends by their side, running 1-4 players local cooperative action. It comes with multiple levels of difficulty too, as well as a speedrun option, twenty-four different weapons and the opportunity to work with more than 250 different combinations of arsenal. We’re pretty sure there will be a loadout awaiting your playstyle.

“We want all our friends to be able to play the game and have a good time, so we included accessibility features such as auto-fire and the ability to disable rendering of backgrounds and other potentially distracting elements to make it more accessible to everyone.” – Anthony Marinello, lead developer at Katsu Entertainment.

The key game features include:

  • 4-player drop-in / drop-out cooperative play.
  • Battle across nine distinct environments, each with its own enemy types.
  • Play as different pilots with unique planes and abilities.
  • Over 250 weapon combinations to choose.
  • Hand-drawn sprites and painted backgrounds.
  • Epic battles with over-the-top mega bosses.
  • Built-in speedrun support.
  • Original soundtrack by composer Dale North (Wizard of Legend, RWBY: Arrowfell, Dreamscaper).
  • Created/developed by an experienced industry team.

If you want to shoot ’em up and think that Dogfight: A Sausage Bomber Story is going to be for you, head over to the usual digital stores and take in a download. For Xbox players, you’ll need to be sorted with an Xbox Series X|S, but from there the Xbox Store will deliver the download you need. Expect to find this on PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC too.

Game Description:

Arcade shoot-’em-up action is back! Team up with the entire family for explosive action, signature humor and thrilling adventure. Join the Sausage Bomber Corps for daring missions to defend the nations of Relishtonia and more against the world-conquering ambitions from the mysterious Vega Nation.
