Nexoria: Dungeon Rogue Heroes is a turn-based, CCG, dungeon-crawler RPG on Xbox One

We’re not sure if there’s a game genre that Nexoria: Dungeon Rogue Heroes doesn’t claim to be. Check the official Xbox page: we have a ‘dungeon exploration, RPG, turn-based tactics and collectible card game’ on our hands here. For the sake of brevity, let’s call it a ‘fusion RPG’, and see what it has to offer. Nexoria: Dungeon Rogue Heroes launches today on Xbox One.

Nexoria doesn’t look like it’s interested in being your conventional Fusion RPG. Watching the trailer highlights some important things that the press materials, below, do not. Honestly, these should be at the top of your press releases people! We shouldn’t be doing this for you!

Number #1: Your dungeon party can include cats and dogs. We’re not so easily swayed that sticking a cat or dog into your game as a playable character will get you a good review, but AWW JUST LOOK AT THE LITTLE BUDDIES. These aren’t just joke characters: these are honest-to-goodness main characters, and it looks like they can pwn a monster party.

Number #2: Your cat and dog will be Spelunky-ing through the ground, for whatever reason, There seems to be a mining component to Nexoria: Dungeon Rogue Heroes, so you can go back to that opening paragraph and add ‘pet-mining game’ too.

Number #3: We don’t want to sound alarmist, but you’re fighting musclebound rabbits and boss potatoes. We’re hoping that developers TERNOX are keeping some cards behind their back, and that there’s even more ridiculous stuff to fight, because frankly you had us at musclebound rabbit.

Of course, the press release has some interesting other stuff in it too, including some gumpf about using ‘time’ rather than turns to determine attack order. It seems the dungeons are procedural, too, so you’ll undoubtedly be doing the rogue-ish thing of dying lots and getting better as you do so. There’s mention of death being fatal-fatal, so hold on to your cats and dogs, people, there’s going to be man-tears.

Features:

  • Unique mix of rogue-like with dungeon exploration, RPG, turn-based tactics and collectible card game
  • Base of the turn-based system are not turns, but time
  • Many heroes with special perk and spells
  • Randomly generated floors with a boss at the end of each
  • Cute cats!
  • Cute girls!
  • And grandpa.

Honestly, we don’t have a clue what to make of Nexoria: Dungeon Rogue Heroes. All we know is that it’s a dungeon-crawling, rogue-lite, CCG, pet-mining, bizarro RPG. Our review is incoming to try to unravel it all.

Nexoria: Dungeon Rogue Heroes is out now on Xbox One and will cost you £4.19 – discounted to £3.77 for two weeks.

Game Description:
