PAW Patrol: Mighty Pups Save Adventure Bay is Avengers for five-year olds on Xbox One, PS4 and Switch

One of my worst cinema experiences was PAW Patrol: Mighty Pups. Bringing a one-year old to the cinema was my first mistake, but it also turned out to be a thirty minute PAW Patrol episode with episodes from other series – not even PAW Patrol – tacked onto the end. Shameless capitalism, if you ask me, but the kids loved it. Go figure. Whatever though, PAW Patrol: Mighty Pups Save Adventure Bay is out now on Xbox One, PS4 and Switch.

This is actually the second bite at a PAW patrol game by Outright Games. The first, Paw Patrol: On a Roll was incredibly simple, but also fantastically pitched for its target audience. Where other games forget how much a five-year old can achieve with a pad, On a Roll nailed it (you only needed to move in one direction, for example). It was the first video game experience for the children in our house. It was rubbish for adults, of course.

Let’s hope that PAW Patrol: Mighty Pups Save Adventure Bay gets it equally right. Or, if you’re an achievement hungry adult, then let’s hope it gets that right too.

This is a particularly late tie-in with the 2018 Mighty Pups movie, but children have long memories, so most won’t care. A meteorite has crash-landed, gifting the PAW Patrol some Avengers-like powers, but also leaving their home, Adventure Bay, in a royal mess. You’ll have to use your wind, fire, speed, ice and other powers to make things right (I’m refusing to say PAWsome, as the press materials require me to). 

This looks to be more of an open world adventure than a 2D platformer, so let’s see if Outright Games pull it off. We’re hoping that it feels like the next Far Cry.
