There’s just something about pinball that makes it the ultimate ‘one more go’ affair: perhaps it’s our primitive captivation with shiny lights and loud noises, coupled with the ever-increasing scores that formulate bragging rights with friends. Whether it’s on a proper machine, or on our gaming machines, we just cannot get enough.
Today marks the turn of Titans Pinball to have a go at drawing us in, as it releases on Xbox and PC following releases on PlayStation and Switch in recent years. However, whilst the draw of doing arcade battle against a wealth of mythologic creatures is an enticing one, Titans Pinball must do a lot to match up to the pinballing kings, such as the Pinball FX series from Zen Studios. Think of this one more in line with the likes of Jurassic Pinball and Touchdown Pinball.
What Titans Pinball offers initially is pretty standard pinballing fare: use the levers at the bottom to flick your pinball into the depths of the machine, triggering all kinds of switches, panels and mini-games to rack up your score. Fail to run the ball past the lever at any point, and it will fall down, lost to the bowels of the machine. It’s pinball – you don’t need that explaining much!
However, throw in eight unique missions, an online leaderboard that plays host to the most competitive of players, as well as modifiers such as Multiball and Jackpots, and you’ll soon find yourself grinding away at the smallest of point increases as the Sun comes up. I’m sure you will be pinballing against Medusa, the minotaur and others in your sleep!
