There are seven – seven! – games leaving Game Pass today, and only one in return. Which hardly seems fair. But that game is Warhammer 40,000: Darktide (PC), so miniature-lovers should be reasonably happy with the exchange.Â
The games going the other way are Archvale (Console, PC, Cloud), Deeeer Simulator (Console, PC, Cloud), Final Fantasy XIII-2 (Console, Cloud), Mind Scanners (Console, PC, Cloud), Mortal Shell (Console, PC, Cloud), Space Warlord Organ Trading Simulator (Console, PC, Cloud) and Warhammer 40,000 Battlesector (Console, PC, Cloud).
What is Warhammer 40,000: Darktide? Good question. We get so many Warhammer games on Xbox, it seems, as Games Workshop are reasonably liberal with their licensing. This one is a first-person shooter, arriving from FatShark, the development outfit behind the criminally underrated Warhammer: Vermintide 1 and 2. The clue was the ‘tide’ in the name, you see.Â
This is a co-op oriented experience, much like the Vermintide games, but the setting is far away from Skaven this time: it’s the city of Tertium, where all varieties of scum and villainy reside. And rather than rely on the melee of Vermintide, you will have to master both hand-to-hand combat and a fully featured arsenal of guns. You’ve never lived till you’ve sliced up a brigand with a lasgun.Â
The Xbox version of Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is currently AWOL, with a provisional release date of ‘a few weeks from now’. That statement’s not oozing confidence, especially since a few weeks’ time is pretty dang close to Christmas, but we are still optimistic that we’ll be writing about it in a future newspost.
As for the games that are leaving today, there are a few diamonds in there that we’d recommend you try. We gave Souls-like Mortal Shell a 4/5, so that’s a good place to start, while we liked Space Warlord Organ Trading Simulator, giving it a 4/5 too, and LOVED Archvale, handing it a rare 4.5/5.Â
You may be wondering what’s in the pipe for December. The answer is ‘we’re not entirely sure’ as the formal announcements haven’t been made yet. But we have supreme confidence that the list will include Hello Neighbor 2 (Console, PC) on Dec 6th, Chained Echoes (Console, Cloud, PC) on Dec 8th, Infinite Guitars (Console, Cloud, PC) on Dec 13th and High On Life (Console) on Dec 13th. We’ve got a couple of those titles listed in our Up Next for December article, detailing the most exciting for the month ahead.
