If you were gaming back in the early 2000s, one of the biggest genres around was high-fantasy. Complete with crushing combat and more mentions of wizards, druids and knights that you could shake a sword at. Perhaps the biggest of its sort was The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, however it is important to never forget Enclave. It released for the OG Xbox in 2002 and paved the way for the release today of Enclave HD on Xbox, PlayStation and Switch.
Enclave, in HD!
Whilst we have more than moved on from HD graphics being the cutting-edge in visuals, the tag of those two letters onto any game is the hallmark of a remastered title. And it must be said that Enclave, when originally released, was heralded as one of the best-looking games of the time.
Now, Enclave HD on Xbox, PlayStation and Switch platforms looks to recapture that magic of the original. All whilst adding in some extra goodies for returning players.
The lore of Enclave, as is the case with all high-fantasy, is complicated and convoluted. You are a warrior destined to save the people of Celenheim, and must wield swords, shields and magic to decide the fate of the people.
However, Enclave features two story-driven campaigns – one for the Light, and one for the Dark. Each offers vastly different options when it comes to creating your character. This vital decision will have massive bearing on how your character fights, as well as the missions you undertake, and the outcome for Celenheim.
Light or Dark?
- The Light – Centuries passed since the High Wizard Zale sacrificed himself to save Celenheim from the hands of Vatar and his legions of Dreg’Atar. The Enclave, the last bastion of the side of light, remained safe enclosed by fortress walls and bottomless chasms. However, the land is beginning to heal and the cliff sides are knitting together. The Shadow forces seek to reignite the war that almost destroyed Celenheim and steal the sacred magic held within the walls of the Enclave. It is up to you to keep the light from being extinguished.
- The Dark – The control of Celenheim was ripped from the hands of Vatar and his legions of Dreg’Atar. For years the prosperous magic sought by the darkness was hoarded in the Enclave by the soldiers of light. The great rifts surrounding the city kept Vatar and his Outlanders from breaching its walls, but their luck is beginning to change. The land is seaming itself together and the time to invade is near. The legion of Darkness is ready and it is up to you to gain back what is rightfully yours.
Regardless of who you choose, you’ll become embroiled in third-person hack-and-slash combat with a variety of enemies, from the demon king Vatar, to huge dragons.
Updates Galore
Whilst preserving the general look and feel of Enclave, Enclave HD on Xbox, PlayStation and Switch features upgraded cinematics. It also comes with epic set-pieces set to all-new musical scores too.
