Sniper Elite 5: Concealed Target Weapon and Skin Pack Review

-

Fresh from typing what must be the longest title ever in for a game expansion, we are here to look at the latest add-on to the popular Sniper Elite 5. The snappily titled Concealed Target Weapon and Skin Pack, sees more content coming to the sniping game. And seeing as how good the base game is, we can obviously get right behind extra content, can’t we?

Following on from the previously released expansion of Sniper Elite 5: Landing Force Mission and Weapon Pack, for the price of admission, there’s not a massive amount to talk about in regards the Concealed Target Weapon and Skin Pack. There’s no easy way to say this, but for £8.79 of your English pounds, you’ll find access to a ghillie suit, a weapon camouflage and a silenced pistol. That’s it. Not a huge amount to write about, but I’ll do my best.

There is no new mission included in this pack either, nor any additional Xbox achievements to hunt down. But there is a free Survival map also launching with the update, which eases the pain a little. So, let’s have a look at what we get for our money, shall we?

The standout addition in the pack is the new pistol, the HS22. It comes with a built-in suppressor, and firing only .22 ammunition, it is practically silent in operation. Of course, firing such little bullets it doesn’t have a huge amount of stopping power, but surprise your targets and it will cope admirably. Or if you are farming pistol kills, knock the enemy out and then shoot them while they are unconscious. It’s not awfully sporting, but they are Nazi’s after all… With a choice of different barrels and magazines to equip, making the pistol your own is pretty easy.

And if we are all about the stealth, we can use the other two parts of this pack to take things to the next level. It was back when I used to play Battlefield: Bad Company 2 online that the Recon class was always referred to as Wookies, due to the ghillie suit that they wear making them look like an ambulatory bush. Well, now we can all channel our inner Wookie as the Ghillie Suit Elite comes to Sniper Elite 5, and this skin can be equipped by Karl and Monika, making hiding in bushes even better. I don’t have any hard evidence that the suit makes it harder for the enemy to find you in the campaign, but it does certainly ensure that you look the part as you shuffle through the undergrowth.

And speaking of looking the part, the last part of this pack is a weapon camo skin called the Pea Dot skin. This is surprisingly colourful, having dots of different colours, like red and yellow, which to me doesn’t seem that stealthy. Still, this is based off of an actual camouflage pattern that was used operationally, so there must be some reason for it; some method to the seeming madness.

The final bit of new content that has been released alongside the Concealed Target Weapon and Skin Pack is a new survival map, which is free to all players. Called Amongst the Rubble, the map is set in a bombed out town and follows the same path as previous Survival maps, with a series of command posts to try and secure, as you hope to keep them free of Nazi invaders. The map itself looks very good indeed, with ruined buildings to perch in and snipe from, and multiple paths that the enemies can take to try and reach your command post. Working with other players in a cooperative fashion is recommended, as it will take a lot of booby traps to secure all the routes. The last thing you want is being shot in the back of the head as you keep watch over the ruins!

All in all, there’s not a massive amount of content in the Sniper Elite 5: Concealed Target Weapon and Skin Pack and that means it is a little hard to recommend. The good news for Season Pass owners is that this is free, but for others, the price does seem something of a sticking point for a gun and some skins. The biggest component of the new content is actually free, the new Survival map, but again, if we’re honest with ourselves, you can easily live without this pack.

Going forward, I can’t help but feel that Rebellion must include a bit more content in their Sniper Elite 5 content drops, as the Sniper Elite 5: Concealed Target Weapon and Skin Pack, in the nicest possible way, is just not worth the outlay.
