As March 2019 rolled into view, ToeJam & Earl got back into the groove, with the release of their latest funkadelic adventure on Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch. It proved to be a decent little offering too, one that was fun in short bursts, as the cool vibe and style took hold. Now though ToeJam & Earl are going through a bit of an update, as the team at HumaNature Studios throw out a few new presents – namely a permanent price drop and the addition of a couple of new game modes.
So first up and while Back in the Groove first released with a £16.74 price tag attached, we now see that cut down to just £12.49, ensuring that you get even more bang for your buck than you did originally.
And even though a price cut in itself would have been more than welcomed, the introduction of a new update on Xbox One (coming soon to PS4 and Nintendo Switch) also provides not just one, but two new game modes.
The Extreme and Endless game modes for Back in the Groove! have been put in place after the development team listened to what the fans wanted, and it turns out that ToeJam & Earl veterans wanted a more retro difficulty level that was similar to the original game. So now that’s exactly what is in place and upon finishing the Hard World you will now be witness to an unlock of Extreme, which offers 25 levels filled with more broken presents, progressively harder, faster and smarter enemies, changes to all characters’ stats, and gameplay much, MUCH harder than v1.0.
Further to that though and we also have the Endless World which is unlocked after reaching level 10 on Extreme World. And this is where you’ll want to strap on some rocket skates, rack up a bunch of tomatoes, and get to work, as Endless has over 1000 levels – well, 1001, in fact. If you’re looking to go beyond the maximum rank of ‘Funklord’ and level up the characters to strengths not possible in the core game, then this here allows the opportunity. And remember, the Endless World quite obviously equals Endless amount of fun.
“Our TJ&E fans keep asking us for more game modes and it’s hard to say ‘no,’ ” said Greg Johnson, founder of Humanature Studios. “Hopefully this will keep them busy for a while. 😉 And by the way, if anyone manages to beat both extreme mode and endless mode (Good luck!) I will sign their games and congratulate them myself.”
If you haven’t yet grabbed a copy of ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove! then you should head to your favoured digital store and pick it up. It’s available on Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC. Remember, it’ll only cost you £12.49 from the Xbox Store now.
