A New Puzzle Format
Releasing today on Xbox and PlayStation platforms, off the back of hundreds of positive Steam and Switch reviews, Toodee and Topdee is a puzzle game with an ingenious twist. You see, it is both a 2D platformer, and top-down puzzle game.
Let us explain. You control both Toodee and Topdee, each of whom can move independently of the other. As Toodee, the goal is to reach an exit gate, at which point the level is won. In the 2D plane, Toodee can platform around the level, gaining access to keys, avoiding enemies and the like. However, the twist comes in which Toodee’s movement can be frozen in time, and control turns to Topdee. From a top-down perspective, Topdee can place boxes, portals and other objects for Toodee to make use of. Following?
This constant interplay between the two colourful characters will be difficult to get to grips with, but once you are familiar, you’ll be completing levels and defeating bosses like nobody’s business.
Gain Help from a Friend in Toodee and Topdee on Xbox
Toodee and Topdee lends itself perfectly to co-op play, and developer dietzribi has implemented co-op mode, if solo mode is too tricky, or if a local friend wants to get involved. Additionally, difficulty settings can be tweaked, to tailor the challenge best.
So, if the likes of Phogs! and other co-op puzzlers had you enthralled, then Toodee and Topdee is certainly worth a look.
