Ready for a bit of shadow puppetry? Projection: First Light is coming to Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC and it promises to be a bit of a dazzling affair.
First announced way back in 2017, with a 2018 launch predicted, only here and now in 2020 will we find Projection: First Light taking hold. Published by Blowfish Studios and created by the teams at Shadowplay Studios and Sweaty Chair Studio, Projection: First Light will be illuminating the lives of Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC (via Steam) gamers come September 29th 2020.
A light manipulation puzzle-platformer, Projection: First Light will deliver the art of shadow puppetry to players as they follow Greta on a journey of self-enlightenment. This will see her – and you – exploring breathtaking locations, including China, Victorian England, Turkey, Indonesia, and more. But don’t think you’re going to be heading off on far flung visits just for an easy time, as you’ll need to harness Greta’s light-manipulating ability in order to travel through this world, all while learning about each culture’s powerful connection to this ancient art form.
Illuminating the path forward to see the world in a new light is the main aim of Projection and this will see you building up platforms from the darkest of shadows so Greta can overcome obstacles and navigate through ornate environments. By bending light and shadows you’ll be able to discover creative solutions to puzzles, uncover alternate pathways, and fully absorb the dazzling details of the places Greta visits, each of which has been meticulously designed to recreate the distinct shadow puppetry of the region and era.
But further still, Projection: First Light on Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC will see you encountering legendary heroes from the various cultures, as you lean on their powerful auras to face off against mythological creatures and learn more about Greta’s newfound light-bending powers.
Developer Shadowplay Studios consulted with famed Australian shadow puppeteer and historian Richard Bradshaw to ensure every aspect of Projection: First Light is presented accurately with the utmost respect to the nations featured within the game. Accompanied by ethereal music performed by period-authentic instruments, the word of Projection: First Light stands as an interactive showcase of shadow puppetry throughout the ages.
“Projection: First Light brings the art of shadow puppetry to life,” said Michael Chu, founder, Shadowplay Studios. “We can’t wait to share Greta’s coming-of-age journey with everyone when the game arrives on PC and consoles this September.”
