PhiGames and Dear Villagers have arrived on the Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Game Pass, PS5 and PC scene today with Recompile, a Metroidvania styled Mainframe hacking adventure. It’s one you won’t want to miss…
Available to purchase and download right now on Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and PC through the finest Steam pages, Recompile is a highly atmospheric romp through a Metroidvania styled land, one which will see you taking charge of a semi-sapient program which finds itself fighting against the threat of utter deletion.
Priced at £20.99 from the Xbox Store (and you should be expected to pay roughly the same on PS5 and PC), Recompile promises to deliver some super intense combat opportunities, the tightest of 3D platforming experiences, and some good old logic-based hacking.
For good measure the teams behind Recompile are also throwing in a ton of super-powered abilities too, because, well, what’s an adventure through an AI world if you can’t make the most of super-powers whilst you go!?
With studio inspiration coming from the likes of Hollow Knight, RiME and Ori and the Blind Forest amongst others, Recompile certainly offers up plenty of intrigue – particularly as the entire narrative and premise of the game takes place within 1 second of our real Earth time.
But even with such a small amount of time available, there’s a huge world to explore here, one that comes with multiple endings, plenty of fights and some serious hacking throughout.
We’ll be sure to let you know how this all plays out once we get hands-on with Recompile on Xbox Series X|S for full review.
If you wish to grab a copy of the game for yourself, head over to the store of your choosing. The Xbox Store is our favourite. You’ll find it available on Xbox Game Pass too.
This atmospheric, Metroidvania-inspired hacking adventure lets you take control of a semi-sapient program struggling against deletion. In the sprawling 3D world of the Mainframe, Recompile features intense combat, tight 3D platforming, super-powered abilities and an environmental logic -based hacking mechanic.
