Infini is abstract, and weird, and bizarre… and just totally mental. When you are awarded the title of ‘Best Experimental Game’ at Tokyo Game Show 2020, you can tell that developers Barnaque have created a game that will crazily twist and turn your brain in all manner of directions.
Releasing today on Xbox and PlayStation consoles, three years on from its PC and Switch debut, Infini is a mind-bending puzzler that relies upon your ability to transform each level in different ways. Whether it is zooming in and out, understanding how your character swaps between screens, or re-framing the level in other ways, the ultimate goal is to guide your ever-falling angelic character to an end-point, for victory. You, quite literally, have to think outside of the box.
Story-wise, and words can’t quite describe how weird and wonderfully strange the tale told in Infini is. You play as the angelic Hope, who finds themselves (itself?) trapped in Infinity, despite an unwavering desire to return to Reality. Between levels you will encounter a series of otherworldly beings who assist Hope in their adventure, whilst also teaching harsh lessons in War, Fatality, and other topics. At one point you talk to an elephant on a beach, that’s all we’ll say!
