As a turn-based strategy experience, Age of Wonders has wowed the crowds for two decades. Now though it’s time for the series to really hit home to the more modern gamer, as Age of Wonders: Planetfall releases on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Available to purchase and download right this very instant, Age of Wonders: Planetfall is the fifth game in the Age of Wonders series, following on from the original game that released in 1999, and the three sequels that followed – Age of Wonders II: The Wizard’s Throne, Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic and Age of Wonders III.

With Age of Wonders III having released back in 2014, it could well be said that Planetfall is 5 years in the making, and with the original developers of Triumph Studios behind it, and Paradox Interactive (they behind Stellaris: Console Edition on Xbox One) and Koch Media running the publishing and physical distribution rights, the launch of this latest Age of Wonders title is a highly anticipated one.

Age of Wonders: Planetfall will see you emerging from the wreck of a galactic empire with the express intention of building a brand new future. How you go about this is easy – take charge of one of six factions and use all your might, wits, and skills to succeed. Okay, maybe it’s not easy, but you get the drift. Fighting, building, negotiating and advancing along the technological paths to utopia in a deep single player campaign, across random skirmish maps, and against friends in multiplayer, really is the order of the day, and in Planetfall you’ll get the opportunity to do all of this and a ton more.

But what exactly do you get? Well, veterans of the series will know all about the turn based strategy that has helped power the series along, and that is the central focus of Planetfall too, as you go about creating the perfect strategic calls whilst partaking in super-intense turn based combat.

Taking control of a range of races, Planetfall will see you attempting to reach a variety of end goals however you see fit. Should you wish to run the political and diplomatic route then you can do so, however the inclusion of doomsday technology and a swathe of offensive units will more than cater for those paths too.

Some of the most key of Planetfall features include:

  • Key Features Tactical Turn-Based Sci-Fi Combat – Perfect your combat strategy in intense turn-based battles that offer tactical challenges, a large cast of races, units with customizable weapons, and destructible environments.
  • Discover a Rich Science Fiction World – Uncover the history of the fallen galactic empire as you explore lush landscapes, and experience the emergent story. Encounter NPC factions and rival houses, and discover hidden technologies that can strengthen your society and give you advantage over enemies.
  • Planetary Empire Building – Create your own unique House, and build prosperous colonies through economic specializations of planetary sectors and governing doctrines.
  • Multiple Paths to Victory – Achieve your end goals through conquest, diplomacy or doomsday technologies. Engrossing options with NPC factions and rival Houses won’t make the decisions easy!

The options whilst in-game with Age of Wonders: Planetfall are huge, and the variety of editions on offer from the Xbox Store are nearly as large. See, not content with just dropping a Standard Edition of Planetfall to gamers for ÂŁ41.74, but a ÂŁ44.99 pre-order option of the Deluxe Edition also includes an exclusive Jack Gelder Avatar Costume, the Bravado Bundle Cosmetic Pack, a Spacerpunk Cosmetic Pack, and the Infested Worlds Scenario Planet. Further still though and fans of the series will no doubt be hugely interested in the pre-orderable Premium Edition for ÂŁ59.99. See, it is that which brings everything mentioned in the Deluxe Edition, but also drops the Season Pass in for good measure, allowing for access to three upcoming expansions and an instant reward. That Season Pass will usually cost ÂŁ31.99, whilst the Deluxe Upgrade pack will set you back ÂŁ10.74. Those on PS4 and PC will no doubt find the same options available from their relevant store.
