Having previously provided a stunning gameplay/fighting/exploration loop on Xbox One, PC and PS4, Mortal Shell is looking to step up to the next gen with a fully confirmed transformation of anguish on Xbox Series X|S and PS5.

It’s fair to say that Mortal Shell delivered the goods when Cold Symmetry and Playstack pushed it out to Xbox One, PS4 and PC masses back in the middle of 2020. In fact, it’s fair to say that we didn’t really expect it to be as good as it actually is. But they nailed what was required of a dark, unrelenting Souls-like experience, all whilst providing enough variety to see it stand alone.

Now though it’s all about Xbox Series X|S and PS5 as the award-winning action-RPG gets set to take in a remastering with uncompromised 60fps gameplay, enhanced textures, 4K resolution and – for PS5 players – DualSense support.

It’ll arrive digitally on March 4th 2021, with a special physical edition also promised, with that coming complete with an exclusive 140-page artbook. Mortal Shell: Enhanced Edition is looking to provide a superior spectacle of the game’s haunting beauty, with rich, meticulous details that have never before been seen on consoles. Throw in gorgeous upgraded textures and razor-sharp 4K resolution, and deliverance of an uncompromised 60 frames-per-second gameplay on PS5 and Xbox Series X, and you’ve got the lot.

Further to that, and whilst it is obviously of no use to us Xbox players, this remaster has been calibrated to take full advantage of the PS5 DualSense controller’s suite of immersive technologies. From the whispering sounds and heartbeat vibrations that resonate from your controller as you approach a new Shell, to the impact you feel in the palm of your hands as you utilize the harden mechanics, this enhanced edition gives PS5 owners a rich physical connection to the game’s dangerous and ruthless world like never before.

We’ll be sure to remind you when Mortal Shell: Enhanced Edition becomes available on March 4th, with it coming in as a completely free next-gen upgrade for existing Mortal Shell customers – head to the Xbox Store right now if you wish to grab it. For those new to the scene, this remastered next-generation version will keep to its last-gen launch MSRP too.

If however you can’t yet embrace the digital lifestyle and need something to get hands-on with, a special limited run is underway of the Mortal Shell: Enhanced Edition – Deluxe Set. This comes with a 140-page artbook showcasing never-before-seen concept art and illustrations created during the game’s development, as well as an exclusive reversible cover and art postcards. The Deluxe Collection’s MSRP is $39.99 (€39.99 / £34.99) and will be available at all major participating retailers this spring across North America and Europe. And yes, a standard physical edition will also be available.

“Mortal Shell has some of the best fans in the world and I am delighted that we can finally answer one of their most frequent requests,” said Kiron Ramdewar, Playstack Head of PC and Console.

“This next-generation upgrade has been crafted in the same spirit as the original – with a painstaking and meticulous attention to detail that our fans expect and deserve. This, along with Mortal Shell’s Steam release this summer, as well as other exciting plans we can’t wait to announce, will ensure 2021 is a vintage year for Mortal Shell fans.”

I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
