Asterix & Obelix: Slap Them All! 2 is coming

We’re fast losing count of the sheer number of Asterix & Obelix games available on the gaming scene. But Microids continue to see space for more, today unveiling Asterix & Obelix: Slap Them All! 2.

This is the follow-up and sequel to 2021’s Asterix & Obelix: Slap Them All!. That was a game we felt was a bit of a missed opportunity, but Slap Them All! 2 promises to deliver at least twice as many slaps as before.

It’ll be hitting Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC in November 2023. If you’ve been looking to continue your Gaul adventures, this is one to keep an eye on.

Building on the original

From the Microids team, Asterix & Obelix: Slap Them All! 2 will play as a fast-paced 2D beat ’em up. From there, expect to be immersed in the imaginative world of René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo, facing off against enemies and unleashing your strength solo or in local cooperation.

You’ll want to do this before the sky falls! Asterix, Obelix and the villagers are interrupted by the sudden arrival of Goudurix, who has come to ask for help. He reveals that his father, Oceanonix, has been imprisoned for a theft he did not commit…

The Aquila of Lutetia, the precious gold emblem of the Roman legions, has just been stolen and an innocent man has been thrown into prison. Asterix promises to investigate and asks Goudurix to stay safely in the village.

It’s here where you join the two Gallic warriors, traveling to Lutetia to obtain information from an acquaintance who is reputed to be well-informed about the rumours and intrigues of the city… And it’s obviously with slaps in the face that they will find the answers on their long journey!

Great Gaul adventures in Asterix & Obelix: Slap Them All! 2

Asterix & Obelix: Slap Them All! 2 will take us on the greatest of Gallic adventures. A multitude of locations await, whipping you through ruins, the forest, a Roman camp and more. Each of these will come complete with its own unique environments and thrilling encounters. Expect a whole ton of slaps to come to the fore.

As a sequel, Slap Them All! 2 will take what was good last time around, building on it. More fearsome enemies and bosses are coming, as will a host of new features and gameplay improvements. Those intrepid Gauls, Asterix and Obelix, now have new specific moves they can charge up for even more powerful attacks. This means battles will be more dynamic, richer and smoother than ever. Our heroes can now trigger their Fury mode too, increasing their strength, and unleashing a devastating Ultimate attack. Destruction of the environment will help ensure chaos takes place.

Supervised by the Les Editions Albert René teams to guarantee respect of Asterix essence, this new episode is being developed by Mr Nutz Studio. The long-awaited sequel promises an adventure that pays tribute to the comics in an exceptional way. The developers have taken the artistic decision to create the characters, backgrounds and animations “by hand”, with absolute respect for the style of 2D animation. This aesthetic choice, imbued with nostalgia, will appeal to fans of the franchise and fans of retro games. You will be transported into a faithful visual universe, reminiscent of the marvellous illustrations in the Asterix and Obelix comic books. Dive into an immersive visual experience and admire the beauty of the craftsmanship carried out by the Mr Nutz Studio’s team.

Furthering the license agreement

Further, Microids and Les Editions Albert René have confirmed that they have extended their licensing agreement for the development of several video games and new figurines based on the famous Asterix franchise.

According to Baptiste Cazaux, Licensing Director at Editions Albert René: « Editions Albert René are delighted to be strengthening and extending their special partnership with Microids. Their long-standing commitment to Asterix has enabled Microids to become a major player in the franchise. We are therefore convinced that future developments will be even more qualitative and innovative thanks to the passion and respect of the Microids teams for the Asterix licence, whose know-how and creativity are undisputed. We therefore look forward to continuing to work with them on future developments and to continuing to build on our collaboration with new video games and new figurines from Pixi / Plastoy ».

We are extremely proud and honoured to continue our privileged collaboration with Les Editions Albert René, which allows us to further explore the universe of Asterix and his friends through video games and the creation of figurines with Plastoy and Pixi. The publisher’s confidence in us is invaluable recognition of the work we have been doing for several years now. It’s a real reflection of our commitment to preserving the integrity and spirit of Asterix, and we look forward to continuing to offer gamers exceptional experiences in this much-loved universe », says Stéphane Longeard, CEO of Microids. « The Microids teams and our studios strive to create titles that are faithful to the original universe created by Albert Uderzo and René Goscinny, offering players fun and entertaining experiences. We look forward to sharing more information about the Asterix games we plan to develop over the coming years.
