Airhead is on Xbox, PlayStation, PC and Amazon

Metroidvania-styled puzzle platformer your bag, but need it to deliver a twist? It’s time to become an Airhead.

Airhead, from HandyGames and Octato is the latest puzzle platformer to release on Xbox Series X|S. Dropping today (right now, in fact), it’s also on PlayStation 5, PC and Amazon Luna. Price? Well, you’re looking at something in the region of £16.74.

What is Airhead?

Airhead is a delight. It takes the usual Metroidvania-offerings that we have seen over the years, implementing some puzzle platforming from there on out. But it comes with a huge twist, and that is in the protagonist with which you play. See, you take charge of Body, a headless being, just as you stumble upon Head. It’s up to you to bring the two together in the best way possible, drawing on air cylinders that will help sustain their life.

Utilising the various mechanics of Airhead will be the only way you ever find success. And these are found as you explore the world around you, traversing dark caves, navigating ancient ruins. Wherever, it’ll be in the environmental puzzles in which the creativity of Airhead excels.

Working as a 2.5D platformer, hidden secrets will be uncovered. And powerful abilities will be utilised too, all as a single story plays out in the background; one of companionship and responsibility.

Key features

In all, the key features of Airhead should sell this one…

  • A beautiful art-style, embracing bold colour and bleak shadow
  • An immersive 2.5D platform experience
  • Exploration in a mysterious world, filled with secrets and hidden paths
  • Challenging puzzles, exploring the unique mechanics of a detachable head full of air
  • Many powerful abilities to discover, each giving access to new areas and puzzles
  • A personal story of companionship, discovery, and responsibility
  • A myriad of creatures and machines to hinder and help you on your adventure

Christopher Kassulke, Co-Founder & CEO at HandyGames said: “We love games which tell remarkable stories in innovative and creative ways. Coupling the incredibly accessible platformer genre with the affecting narratives of decay, connection and hope is a recipe for success. We feel Airhead captures all of this and more, which is why we are incredibly excited to put it in the hands of players.”

Sound good? You bet it is – but our full review of Airhead on Xbox will sell it even more.

Airhead is downloadable from the Xbox Store as we speak. From there, you’ll get to play on Xbox Series X|S. It is not available on Xbox One though.

Alternatively, play Airhead on PlayStation 5, PC or Amazon Luna.

Airhead Game Description

Airhead is an adventure through a sprawling interconnected world, where you must explore, evolve and overcome intricate puzzles to succeed. You play as Airhead, a small Body and the round inflated organism it uses as a Head. And while Head is slowly but surely deflating, you have a chance to save its life. To do so, you must use air tanks to keep Head inflated while you explore Airhead’s metroidvania-style world, searching for amazing abilities and upgrades that will unlock new areas and puzzles for you to overcome. On your adventure, it will be up to you to uncover the true connection between Head, the air tanks, and the technology that litters the world, so you can save Head no matter the cost.
