Admit it, you’ve missed the delights of Call of Duty. After going up against the brilliant Battlefield series in recent times, pushing out new ideas, venturing off into space and gathering up hatred as it went, it’s been a tough few years for the Call of Duty franchise. But when things are at their lowest, the best thing to do is hark back to greatness, and in Call of Duty world, that means making a return and a soft reboot of the stunning Modern Warfare. But it’s not just about Activision making cash and with the addition of a Defender Pack, they are being a bit charitable too.

With Activision and Infinity Ward teaming up once more we see the release of the hotly anticipated Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on Xbox One, PS4 and PC, as players get the opportunity to embark on a heart-racing Modern Warfare story before heading off into the online universe to marvel at the wonders of new game modes, new ideas and a whole greater mix of maps, content, and events.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare really does need no introduction, for it is the Modern Warfare side of things which has really grabbed the attention of gamers, hammering home everything that has been great about Call of Duty over the years. We don’t need to tell you about the brilliance of the original games either – Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 – but any gamer worth their salt should be preparing to go dark once more, as the series hits back.

Promising a gritty, raw, provocative narrative, Infinity Ward are ensuring that the new reimagining of the Modern Warfare series will be something that thrusts the franchise ahead in the shooting stakes, no matter whether you prefer to delve into the deep single player tale or attempt to hold your own and prove a worthy soldier in the multiplayer field.

It is that latter option which could well, once again, ensure that Call of Duty becomes the industry leader with nothing short of the ultimate online playground delivers classic multiplayer moments, amid the opportunity to play cooperatively and squad up with others.

As with any big release of recent times, there are options available to you outside of the game too, and with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare you’ll need to prepare to make choices in terms of the Edition you wish to go hands on with. With digital options that cover the Standard Edition of the game for £59.99, or the deeper Operator Edition for £74.99, bringing with it a custom In-Game Tactical Knife, the “All Ghillied Up” Operator Pack, a “Crew Expendable” Operator Pack, and the “War Pig” Operator Pack, your purchasing options may well only be dictated by the size of your wallet.

But there’s also the Operator Enhanced Edition in place too. This comes in at a cool £85.24, but delivers a whole ton of goodies including an in-game XRK Weapons Pack, the custom In-Game Tactical Knife, the previously mentioned Operator Edition Premium Digital Items and no less than 3,000 Call of Duty Points for use however you see fit.

Of course, should you prefer the physical route then Amazon will sort you out for £49.99.

Further to all that and we also see the C.O.D.E. Defender Pack arrive for £8.99. This is the biggest Endowment pack ever for CoD, including the Defender Pistol variant, Weapon Camo, watch, charm, sticker, a couple of environmental sprays, numerous emblems and a calling card or two. What’s great about this is that Activision are sending 100% of the profits of this pack to helping veterans in the UK and US find high quality civvy jobs.

So, is the reboot of Modern Warfare the kick that Call of Duty needed? Will you be involving yourself with the online battle? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, and don’t forget to keep an eye out for our upcoming review of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on Xbox One too. It’s a-coming.
