Klonoa may not be mentioned in the same breath as other platformer mascots such as Spyro, Crash Bandicoot and of course, Mario. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t deserve to be. Whether this is the first time you’ve heard of him, or have been a fan since the beginning, these remasters are for young and old. Collecting two titles together, the Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series is out today on Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC.
The Phantasy Reverie Series brings together two of Klonoa’s most famous games: Door to Phantomile and Lunatea’s Veil. Both have been remastered – Lunatea’s Veil for the first time since releasing on PlayStation 2 – with improved visuals and sounds.
Both games are 2.5D side-scrolling platformers. Klonoa is equipped with a Wind Ring that allows him to grab enemies from a distance and inflate them. These can be used against other enemies or thrown to the ground to elevate Klonoa. As you will soon discover, there will be plenty of verticality to Klonoa, where the best stuff is usually hidden for you to find. It isn’t a collectathon like many other platformers, though there is still an element to it.
New features in this remaster include an adjustable difficulty. Changing this gives unlimited lives and the ability for Klonoa to grab enemies from even further away with his Wind Ring. Don’t take our word for it, check out the launch trailer below:
The Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series is on the Xbox Store now priced at £39.99. This includes the base game and the Moo Costume Set, allowing Klonoa to dress up as one of the enemies you will be fighting. The Moo Costume Set is unavailable separately.
