A new visual novel on Xbox? That’s Chemically Bonded

Promising twists, turns, quirks and more, Chemically Bonded launches on Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.

Coming from the Ratalaika Games team, Chemically Bonded is the latest weird and wonderful visual novel to hit console stores. And with it being the latest in the ever-lengthening line of Ratalaika titles, this one is playable across Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S (optimised), PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.

Priced at £9.99, with a little launch discount dropping it down a tad, Chemically Bonded whisks you off to a Japanese High School. In it you play as a school lad who becomes embroiled in a bit of a dispute between a couple of female students. It’s up to you to mend the relationship between the two; Kiyoko and Naomi.

A new Ratalaika visual novel

As a visual novel, your choices will dictate how Chemically Bonded on Xbox, PlayStation and Switch plays out. Slowly piecing together backstory, you’ll find yourself partaking in both conventional – and unconventional – life choices. It’s these which will determine how your relationships unfold. And which of the two grows most fond of you.

This one is found running between some six and nine hours in length, multiple pathways and endings. If you’re up for a bit of romance and drama, Chemically Bonded should well cater.

“The story has been written with the tastes of the audience in mind and what people are looking for within the romance genre. It offers a more conventional take on modern day relationships and the emotional struggles of early adulthood as one stage of life progresses to the next. In contrast with other titles in this genre, Chemically Bonded follows the theme of ‘facades’ throughout its narrative and how people’s true selves often conflict with their desires to be accepted by others”, ds-sans.

It helps that Chemically Bonded is rich with features. You’re getting a fully-voiced story, an original soundtrack, a lovely depiction of a Japanese highschool and more…

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
