Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition Xbox

JRPG fans across Europe have been licking their lips in anticipation with this next release. Unlike those in America or Asia, us in the middle never got an official release. But then likewise, those in America will be licking their lips with what else is included in this remaster, because they never got the prequel. There is something for everyone then, as Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition releases on Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC.

Set in the same world as another JRPG classic Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross begins with main protagonist Serge learning that in a parallel universe, he died. In an attempt to find out how and why, he sets out into the world with the help of over 40 playable characters.

Chrono Cross’s turned-based battle system features a system called ‘Elements’ that are likened to Final Fantasy VII’s materia system. If you have played that all-time classic, Chrono Cross should be a home from home.

This remaster also includes the Radical Dreamers, the text-based prequel to Chrono Cross that never released outside of Japan. New features also included in the remaster are:

  • 3D models converted to HD
  • Refined character illustrations
  • Higher-quality background music
  • Switch enemy encounters on or off
  • Background filter feature
  • Battle enhancement features to make combat easier
  • Auto-battle function
  • Switch between imitation pixel font and HD font
  • Change screen resolution

Does this time travelling, paradigm shifting, space hopping JRPG get the remaster it deserves? Our review will have all the answers soon.

Game description:

“CHRONO CROSS: THE RADICAL DREAMERS EDITION” is a remaster of “CHRONO CROSS”. The 3D models have been upgraded to HD, new illustrations have added, and all kinds of new features are now included. Additionally, the game that formed the bedrock of the story, “RADICAL DREAMERS – Le Trésor Interdit -“, is included in this edition! CHRONO CROSS is an RPG that transcends time and space, unfolding across two interlinked parallel worlds. With over 40 party members to meet, people and dimensions will intertwine in this epic drama about the planet itself. RADICAL DREAMERS – Le Trésor Interdit – “RADICAL DREAMERS – Le Trésor Interdit -” was released in 1996 as a standalone game, and has not been easily accesible for play in recent years. Players can experience the story that went on to become the basis for CHRONO CROSS in an audio novel format. Here, an alternate story of the RADICAL DREAMERS, a group of three thieves – Serge, Kid and Magil – unfolds in a parallel world. *You can switch between the new and old versions of the 3D models and illustrations. *The 3D models, illustrations, font and background filter cannot be toggled separately. They will all be switched together.
