Each and every year 2K like to kick-start the hype train for their WWE 2K series with the reveal of their cover star, but for WWE 2K20 there are actually two of them and alongside this a whole host of other details have been unveiled to really get the excitement levels pumping. So let’s step inside the ropes and find out more…
Following in the footsteps of wrestling behemoths like John Cena, Stone Cold Steve Austin and most recently AJ Styles, it’s time for ‘The Man’ Becky Lynch and Roman Reigns to grace the front cover for WWE 2K20. The current Raw Women’s Champion, Lynch, and the immensely popular Reigns will serve as ambassadors for the worldwide marketing campaign – “Step Inside” – which invites players to enter the world of WWE and face a variety of new and exciting challenges in the virtual ring.
“My career has been about breaking barriers and doing what nobody else has done before. Being the first female Superstar on the cover of a WWE 2K video game is no exception,” said Becky Lynch.
“As a gamer myself, being on the cover of WWE 2K20 alongside ‘The Man’ Becky Lynch and joining the likes of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and John Cena is a huge career and personal milestone for me,” added Roman Reigns.
After receiving a ton of fan feedback regarding last year’s instalment, WWE 2K20 will include several new concepts alongside streamlined gameplay and improvements to a variety of popular modes. Firstly, the story-driven 2K Showcase mode is set to be focused on The Women’s Evolution and follows the careers of the Four Horsewomen – Bayley, Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair and Sasha Banks – from their NXT encounters through to their antics on the SmackDown and Raw rosters.
In addition to this, WWE 2K20 players will finally be able to compete as both male and female Superstars in MyCAREER and Mixed Tag matches – as seen in the Mixed Match Challenge. The WWE Towers are returning with exciting new challenges, including a story-focused Tower shining a spotlight on the career of Roman Reigns. As for new ideas, and well, that’s where WWE 2K20 Originals comes in, which aims to deliver a wealth of 2K Showcase add-on content post-launch. Each of these WWE 2K20 Originals will present a new playable world and its own unique theme, with more details expected to be announced in the coming months.
“Becky Lynch and Roman Reigns embody passion, determination and perseverance, and they’re both major game changers within the larger WWE landscape,” said Chris Snyder, Vice President of Marketing for 2K. “They are the spirit of WWE 2K20, which is going to introduce changes requested by our fans. They asked for female-driven MyCAREER and 2K Showcase offerings, and we’re giving them just that, as well as streamlined controls and our brand new WWE 2K20 Originals. We can’t wait to reveal more details soon.”
WWE 2K20 is currently scheduled for a worldwide release on 22nd October, 2019 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. There’s also going to be a Deluxe Edition and a Collector’s Edition of WWE 2K20 that include in-game bonuses and physical items, both of which have been outlined by 2K on their official site.
