CD Projekt Red are on a hiding to nothing. Seriously, if they deliver the goods with Cyberpunk 2077, then that is pretty much what is expected of them and not a soul will batter an eyelid. But fail to even reach the levels that the hype surrounding one of the most anticipated games of all time has created, and they will be blasted from all corners. Whatever happens though, all you need to know is that Cyberpunk 2077 is now available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4 and PC – finally.
First teased way back in 2012 – yes, this is a game that has been eight years in the making – and then seeing the hype ramp up from an E3 showing in 2019, Cyberpunk 207 has been the game on all gamer’s lips since then. Release dates have come, release dates have gone, but finally, on the eve of 2020 passing off into the distance forever more, it’s here with release on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5 and PC.
For those who have been living under a rock – a rather massive rock – for the last few years, here’s the setup…
Night City plays host to Cyberpunk’s huge open-world, as you get the chance to partake in an action adventure story that sees you going after the key to immortality. How you go about that is totally up to you and like the very best open-worlders, chances are your playthrough will be entirely different to that of your friends, and their friends…
A wonderfully created, uber vast landscape is pretty much your playground in Cyberpunk 2077, as you go about building yourself with cybernetic enhancements, working the streets until your name is known. Actions have reactions, decisions play out much longer than any short term fix, and the world of Night City will evolve, and revolve, around you. Drop in some stunning visuals and a soundscore that should excite, and well, you’ve got the lot. Except for the next-gen stuff, as that’s coming a little later.
Really, you need know nothing more except for the fact with CD Projekt Red behind it, and past history having seen them prove their worth – especially with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – this is going to be a game that you, your family, your friends and your enemies will want to play. Just be prepared to sink hours, days, weeks and months into the world that lies ahead.
Our full review of Cyberpunk 2077 on Xbox will be whisked towards your eyes as fast as we can, but honestly, with the amount of gameplay promised, and the fact that there are only so many hours in the day, even foregoing sleep may mean we’re looking at a few weeks prior to gathering some thoughts. In the meantime though, if you wish to visit the seedy Night City for yourself you’ll find the usual digital stores more than capable of providing access. Our favourite – that of the Xbox Store – is happily holding a download behind a £49.99 asking price. You’d expect similar on PS4 and PC too.
So now that Cyberpunk 2077 is finally here, let us know how you’ll be approaching this bad boy. The comments section is down below and we’d love to hear of your visit to Night City.
