It’s taken a good few months but finally Bethesda have been caught up in the excitement of next-gen console upgrades as they push out a free update for DOOM Eternal – and this one comes with not just one, not two, but three awesome new Graphics modes.

Rolling out today for Xbox Series X|S and PS5 as part of Update 6 for DOOM Eternal are a whole host of new features for the game with the standard improvements in visuals, increased game performance, Ray Tracing support and 4K resolution all present.

But it’s the fact that Bethesda have seen fit to allow for three different Graphics Modes that is the most exciting, with the Ray Tracing Mode seeing DOOM Eternal run at 1800p/60 FPS with some seriously cool lighting, Performance Mode also running at 1800p but taking things up to 120 FPS, and the Balanced Mode running at 4K / 60 FPS – all available on Xbox Series X. PS5 players see the Performance Mode capped at 1584p / 120 FPS, whilst those on Series S lose the Ray Tracing fun.

There is also full cross-gen BATTLEMODE support in place for Xbox across Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, whilst PS5 players can join the fun with those on PS4.

In all, the breakdowns sit as follows:

Xbox Series X:

  • Three New Graphics Modes
    • Ray Tracing Mode running at 1800p/60 FPS
    • Performance Mode running at 1800p/120 FPS

  • Two New Graphics Modes
    • Performance Mode running at 1080p/120 FPS
    • Balanced Mode running at 1440p/60 FPS
  • HDR 10 in any Graphics Mode
  • Cross-Gen BATTLEMODE support with Xbox One
  • Variable Refresh Rate
  • Variable Rate Shading
  • **NOTE**: Ray Tracing Mode is not available on Xbox Series S

PlayStation 5:

  • Three New Graphics Modes
    • Ray Tracing Mode running at 1800p/60 FPS
    • Performance Mode running at 1584p/120 FPS
    • Balanced Mode running at 4K/60 FPS
  • HDR 10 in any Graphics Mode
  • Ultra-Quality Style Graphics Settings
  • Cross-Gen BATTLEMODE support with PlayStation 4
  • DualSenseâ„¢ adaptive trigger support

PC:

  • Ray Tracing Mode: Availability and performance depends on the player’s PC hardware.

Further though and Update 6 for DOOM Eternal also adds a new Master Level: Taras Nabad. The capital of Argent D’Nur, Taras Nabad was once the victim of a major demonic invasion that further cemented the legend of the DOOM Slayer. Now it’s time to return to the city in the Master Level challenge to show those demons that the first time wasn’t a fluke!

And then the BATTLEMODE is also getting in on the new action with an all-new arena, improvements  and enhancements focusing on multiple bandwidth optimizations, bug fixes and a whole host of balance changes.
Get a watch of the new DOOM Eternal features arriving today in Update 6 by taking in the trailers below.

If you haven’t yet picked up the game, the Xbox Store, the PlayStation Store or your favourite PC store will sort you out with the demonic action.

I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
