Dungeon Defenders: Awakened ‘Lycan’s Keep’ DLC leaps onto Xbox One, Series X|S and PC

Co-operative dungeon crawler Dungeon Defenders: Awakened gets its first utterly FREE chunk of DLC today, in the form of Lycan’s Keep on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The release is synchronised with the release of Dungeon Defenders: Awakened on the Nintendo Switch, although the Lycan’s Keep DLC will be arriving at a later, unconfirmed date for the Nintendo platform, as well as the PS4 and PS5.

Lycan’s Keep introduces two new heroes to fold into your roster. There’s The Rogue, named Master Swift, who is an elite elf warrior with the intriguing ability of stealthing up to opponents and then attaching devices to them. We’re hoping there’s an opportunity to tuck explosive devices into people’s pockets. Hey, it was always fun in Fallout.

Then there’s The Warden, a makeover of Dungeon Defender II’s Dryad. She’s a nature-aligned warrior who can use laser-flowers (amazing), a floating barrage of wisps, and exploding mushrooms to get her way. Both characters are available from the moment you boot the expansion.

Chromatic Games have also listened to feedback from the community, and taken the opportunity to attach some fixes to Lycan’s Keep. The item system has had a ground-up revamp, improving the strength and accessibility of gear, while the UI has had readability improvements. There’s more to fiddle with, too, with new equipment sets, wings, cosmetic options and accessories.

To even the scales, the baddies have been given a buff too. They will now teleport through portals on Rifted Maps, and head straight for your Crystal Core. Survival maps also receive a special bonus wave, with powerful rewards if you can beat them.

It wouldn’t be fair to add new shiny things without offering new places to use them, so Lycan’s Keep adds four maps, evenly split between the old – reimagining previous Dungeon Defenders arenas – and the new, culminating in an epic tussle with the Lycan King. If you’re bouncing your head against the skill-ceiling of Dungeon Defenders: Awakened, there is also the ‘Lycan’s Keep’, where a Tests Mode brings character-specific trials for you to test your mettle and metal on. These are one-on-one encounters with bosses, all without the safety net of hero towers.

The Lycan’s Keep DLC is out now, for free, on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC. It is due for launch later in the year on PS4, PS5 and Switch. Dungeon Defenders: Awakened has also finally launched today on Nintendo Switch.

“We’ve worked on the Dungeon Defenders franchise for more than a decade,” said Alec Saare, Creative Director, Chromatic Games. “Awakened is the first title in the series available on a Nintendo console, and we are thrilled to welcome a new generation of Defenders to Etheria today!”

Grab the base game from your favourite store, ideally the Xbox Store.
