Follow the Bloodhound gang with the latest addition to theHunter: Call of the Wild

thehunter call of the wild bloodhound

theHunter: Call of the Wild isn’t the only hunting experience available on console or PC. But it’s most definitely the best. Today though it gets better still as man’s best friend joins us for the ride as we get the chance to utilise the power of a Bloodhound and get tracking like never before.

If we’re honest, we need this Bloodhound, if only because our attempts to hunt in theHunter: Call of the Wild turn in to rather quiet affairs. But now, with the inclusion of our canine friend, things should (read: should/could/might/probably won’t) get a little easier. He’s got a good nose you know.

Priced at £2.79, theHunter: Call of the Wild Bloodhound DLC is the one piece of DLC for the game that we really think will make a huge difference. You see, the Bloodhound is well known for its strong sense of smell and tracking instincts, and even though our office Cockapoo could think of nothing better than curling up under a desk all day, the Bloodhound is built to track.

Coming in both dog and bitch options, and fully customised with different coat variations, it’s nice to see that you can build a bit of a pack here too, with no less than 20 dogs available to be added to your roster. Better still is that each will have their own unique set of skills and attributes – again, we hope none are as lazy as our dog.

These Bloodhounds should follow you forevermore too, allowing you to make use of their tracking skills in order to become the best hunting team you can ever wish to be. Of course, you’ll have to give it praise, the odd treat or two, and build the bond for these beasts to work for you.

“Since the release of theHunter: Call of the Wild in 2017, our community’s support, dedication and creativity have helped shape the game into what it is today,” said Sacha Karsenty, Product Owner at Expansive Worlds. “With the Bloodhound DLC, we’re incredibly excited to bring one of the most requested features to life, and give players the opportunity to hunt alongside this gentle, yet incredibly effective scent hound.”

“To catch all the complex canine movements, we were fortunate enough to work with some fantastic real-life dogs in a professional studio environment using motion capture technology,” said Arshak Ardeshir, Experienced Game Designer at Expansive Worlds. “Thanks to their amazing performances, we’re able to bring animations to life with even more realism and deliver the experience our players have come to expect.”

Key features of theHunter: Call of the Wild Bloodhound DLC include:

  • A Nosy Partner – Putting your canine-companion to work generates experience points, which can be spent to improve its tracking skills and companion attributes. Tailor it to match your style, and watch it become the dependable sidekick you’ve always wanted.
  • Hunters’ Best Friend – Sharing a strong bond with your hound is equally as important, as it impacts its ability to focus. Petting, praising and giving it treats strengthens this bond, so make sure to show your dog some love after a good day’s hunt!
  • One of a Kind – The Bloodhound is available as male and female, and can be customised with different fur coat variations. You can add over 20 dogs to your roster – each with its own set of skills and attributes. Like a true friend, your active dog will follow you across any reserve or Trophy Lodge you visit.

Just pop over to your favoured digital store in order to get training your dog. Our favourite is that of the Xbox Store where we can play theHunter on both Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. You’ll also find the game and DLC on PS4, PS5 and PC.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
