I cannot believe that we move into Series 30 of the Festival Playlist Weekly Challenges in Forza Horizon 5. But we are here and with a new series comes a new theme. For the next month or so, that theme is of “Lunar New Year”, and as we have to expect, there are a plethora of new events to try our hand at. I’m particularly delighted this week as there are a lot of drifting challenges. Drifting makes me happy!
So, let’s get cracking with the new Series and have a look at the cars and tunes you’ll need in order to triumph! And as they say in China, 龙年快乐 (Happy New Year of the Dragon!)
Part 1: Weekly Car Challenge – Field Trip
The weekly challenge car for Series 30 – Summer is a drift special, the Formula Drift #777 Chevrolet Corvette.
As a professional level drifting car, you’d expect this thing to be a handful, but as long as you don’t try to drive in a straight line, it’s awesome!
Should you not have one in your garage, then it is available in the Autoshow for a hefty 300,000 Credits. Or you could always win the Trial and be gifted one.
Chapter 1 – Water Can’t Stop Me!
Get in your new car, take it for a spin. Step one complete!
Chapter 2 – A Way of Life
Surprisingly, we now need to earn 6 stars at Drift Zones. Who saw that coming?
Do this at the Los Campos Drift Zone and you can tick off the Photo Challenge as well. One stone, two birds!
Chapter 3 – Drifting Season
With a perfect 50/50 weight distribution, the Corvette is built to slide. Now we need to get 10 Ultimate drift or E-drift skills. Told you there was lots of drift action this week.
Chapter 4 – Mystery!
I accidentally completed stage 4 while trying to complete the Drift Zones below, so sadly can’t tell you how to do it! Just keep drifting is my advice… If you do find out what is needed for this ‘Mystery’, let us know in the comments.
Complete these tasks and we will be five points closer to the seasonal prizes that are up for grabs with Forza Horizon 5’s Festival Playlist Weekly Challenges for Series 30
Part 2: Weekly Challenges, Championships and PR Stunts
So, with the weekly challenge done and dusted, let’s dive into the rest of the mayhem on offer.
Only three Eventlabs this week, and much drifting to do, so it should be fun.
The Trial – Corvetting the Competition
Oh dear. A new series and more puns.
Yes, we need a Corvette this week, and with the tuning limit being only B Class 700, it shouldn’t be too tricky. I chose a ZR-1 from 1970 with share name ZR1 with my Gt, Red620Ti.
Last week we did alright finding fellow racing peeps, may the same happen to you.
Should we manage to win out on this mammoth drive, a Formula Drift #777 Corvette is the prize. May save you some pennies…
Eventlab 1 – Don Joewon Song Presents – utopia Gardens Recension
The category for this one is Rally Monsters up to A Class 800, and so I went with the Hoonigan Cossie V2. My share code is : 140648350.
A long and complex lap, this is a lot of fun to drive, as we’ve come to expect from this track designer.
The prize for completing this race is a Super Wheelspin.
Eventlab 2 – Twisted Knot Presents – Turbine Raceway Day
Retro sports cars to a maximum of B Class 700 this time, and of the choice on offer I picked a stock Toyota Supra Mk IV. It saddens me to think this car is now classed as retro!
A fast and flowing course that is perfect for hanging the back end of the Supra out, I really enjoyed this one.
Take away a green car tee for completing it.
Eventlab 3 – GT Deny Presents – The Butterfly Tunnel Run
We need Modern Sports cars, tuned to A Class 800 for this event, which is a fully enclosed tunnel race! Can’t wait.
I chose a Stock Audi TT RS from 2018, as it is cheap and AWD. I like both of those things.
Another fast and fun track, with one warning – it is possible to miss the checkpoints if you run wide on the corners. Ask me how I know…
We can take away a Porsche 911 Turbo from 1982 for completion. Proper widow maker!
PR Stunt 1 – Drift Zone – Cara Este
The PR Stunts this week all share a common theme – Formula Drift cars, tuned to S1 Class 900.
Luckily, the MkIV Supra is just right for some sliding, and keeping it stock will keep the costs down. Equally, use the Corvette from the weekly challenge, whatever floats your boat!
We need to score over 600,000 drift points, and this is pretty easy. Just keep sliding, and don’t spin out – failing at 500,000 points is pretty upsetting. Or so I understand… I’d love to hear how many points you get. Again, comments section – below!
We get a #64 Nissan Z in return though.
PR Stunt 2 – Drift Zone – Polytunnels
Same challenge, same car, same wheels spinning! The target this time is to score over 140,000 drift points.
Another Super Wheelspin awaits.
PR Stunt 3 – Drift Zone – Camino de Montana
Rinse and repeat again! This time the score target is over 140,000 points, and it should be pretty straight forward.
Yet another Super Wheelspin for doing this.
Seasonal Championship 1 – A Rod for your own Race
The pun writers are back after the break…
For this event, it is a Rods and Customs class car, and the tuning limit is C Class 600. I went with a Plymouth Fury and the share code for mine is 868801039.
For winning out, we can take home a Xpeng P7, which we are going to need later….
Seasonal Championship 2 – Utility Thrills
The class this time around is B Class 700, and the class is Vans and Utility. I chose a Ford FPV with share code : 486441206.
The prize for winning is a Ford Supervan 3, which makes up for the hassle, I guess!
Part 3: Other Challenges
There’s always more to get involved in than just the racing, and that is the case again this week with Series 30 – Summer.
What do we have? Well a Treasure Hunt, a photo to take, Eliminator and Horizon Arcade – what more could you want?
Photo Challenge – #SNAPOVERSTEER
We have to photograph any car at the entrance to the Los Campos drift zone, and since we have to go drifting for the weekly challenges this week, it should be a piece of cake, no?
See up top for my artistic effort, and below for the location.
The reward? A new Forzalink phrase “Driftacular”.
Treasure Hunt 1 – Frogs in the Well
The clue this time reads “This spritely frog is oh so bouncy, jump 5 times and claim your bounty!”.
The picture is a Frogeye Sprite, and I’m guessing that having the wheels leave the ground is the challenge? Jump about a bit and the treasure will be yours!
The treasure chest contains 300FP, and the location is shown below.
The Eliminator – Battle Royale
Take part, try not to get knocked out, survive into the top 30, and profit. Profit to the tune of a new Forzalink phrase, “This isn’t even my final form”.
Why you’d ever need to say that, I am unclear.
Horizon Arcade – Mini Games
We have to complete stage 3 in any of the various Arcade sessions that are dotted around. These can be Drift, Speed, Wreckage, Chaos or Air events, and while the Drift one will seem to tie into the theme of the week, pick your best one and have a go.
The reward is a whole 3 points towards the weekly rewards.
Part 4: Hot Wheels Events
If you have the Hot Wheels expansion and are an Elite Level player, then you get to enjoy a couple of extra events.
Seasonal PR Stunt – Danger Sign – Ice Crash
These next two both require a car in keeping with the theme, an Xpeng tuned to A Class 800. Not a massive choice here, I went with a P7 and the share name is Xpeng in conjunction with my GT, Red620Ti. Just as an aside, this car is rubbish!
We need to clear over 440m here.
The prize is another Super Wheelspin. Sigh.
Seasonal Championship – In the Loop
We need a Mclaren tuned to S1 Class 900 for this series of events. I chose a 570S Coupe and the share code is : 179226463.
For winning, it is a Mercedes G Wagon we can take away.
Part 5: Rally Adventure Events
The Rally Adventure expansion brings even more events to the roster and provided you are already a Horizon Badlands champion, you’ll get access to the following couple of events…
Seasonal PR Stunt -Danger sign – Dunes
Same car, same challenge, so do it all again!
Jump over 200 m to win.which is a bit of a challenge as the run-up is quite tricky.
A Super Wheelspin is your reward.
Seasonal Championship – Ohh The Audicity
Lets just take a moment to acknowledge this title, surely the pinnacle of the pun writers craft?
We need an A Class 800 Audi Avant model, and of the choice, I went with an RS6 from 2015 and the share code is : 736888629.
Completing the championship will get us an Epitaph black tee. Yay. Yay?
With Series 30 just starting, a new set of cars are up for grabs. And they are the Ioniq 6 ‘22 for 80 points and a Nio EP9 for 160.
Even more Rivals circuits have now been added, and there are two for proper cars and two for EVs. For proper cars, we can have a crack at Estadio Circuit and Horizon Baja Scramble, while the EV lovers amongst us will enjoy Tierra Prospera Circuit and Aerodroma Sprint. Put in a clean lap on each event to earn 4 points per race, which is nice!
Grab enough points and Series 30 – Summer also sees you given access to the exclusive Hyundai Kona ‘22 for 20 points. Additionally, for 40 points we can get a Wuling Sunshine, a hard to find car apparently. Not sure why you’d want to find one, mind…
With a new Series just dawning, there is plenty more to look forward to as the weeks go by. Come back, same time, same place for a look at Autumn’s events.
To enjoy these events in the Festival Playlist Weekly Challenges, you’ll need a copy of Forza Horizon 5. It’s available on Game Pass, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC and on the cloud via mobile. The Xbox Store will sort you out with a download.
Let us know in the comments if I have helped, hindered or missed the mark with these tunes.
