Updated Article – June 24th 2025

A year on from this article originally going live, we have a fully confirmed launch date for Grit and Valor – 1949. And it is? August 21st 2025 – so not too far away.

To coincide with the console launch, the team at Milky Tea have joined forces with nDreams to create a VR edition of the game. This will be free for all PC and PlayStation 5 owners, as it looks to reimagine the game’s dynamic real-time tactics in a whole new reality, giving players the opportunity to get up close and personal with the battlefield.

The game will also be available for purchase separately on the Meta Quest store.

Grit and Valor – 1949 was always built with the idea of recreating the thrilling experience of playing with miniatures on a battlefield, but in a video game setting,” said Kevin Campbell, Producer at Milky Tea. “What nDreams has helped us achieve is giving players added immersion, bringing the world of the game to life in a virtual setting”.

Real-time tactics? Roguelite action? Grit and Valor – 1949 is coming in 2025 to PC and console.

Announced today by Megabit, Aonic and the development team at Milky Tea (previously behind Coffin Dodgers) is Grit and Valor – 1949. This is a real-time tactics roguelite that will be looking to launch on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC in 2025. If you’ve ever wanted to battle with Mechs across an alternate WWII dieselpunk world, this is going to be for you.

Real-time tactical roguelite

Running as a dieselpunk real-time tactics roguelite, Grit and Valor – 1949  is set in an alternate reality Europe, one in which World War 2 rages on and the Evil Axis controls the continent. As the last hope to end this brutal conflict, it’ll be up to you to join the resistance and escort an EMP device into the heart of enemy territory, destroying their mech production and communications headquarters – Machine Tower.

“It’s no coincidence that Grit and Valor – 1949 is the first game published under Megabit, as it perfectly represents the reason why we built our new publishing arm, to support experiences and studios like this,“ said Benjie Clarke, Managing Director of Global Publishing at Aonic. “Milky Tea is a passionate group of visionary developers and it’s truly an honor to help them realize their extraordinary vision.”

Grit and Valor is set across four distinct regions, and each of those comes with its own unique gameplay mechanics, challenges and a variety of randomly generated battlefields to overcome. Utilising an all-elite squad of mechs, you must protect the Command Vehicle and escort an EMP into the heart of the enemy. Each mission requires the completion of objectives, as you look to survive against hordes of enemy waves, while utilising the terrain and environment to their advantage, exploiting enemy weaknesses to ensure victory.

Grit and Valor – 1949 promises to deliver gripping real-time tactical action, as you must configure that Mech squad to fit each mission and think fast to survive, utilising the right powers, Pilots and upgrades after each successful run will help ensure victory and when combined with roguelite replayability, no two playthroughs in Grit and Valor – 1949 will be the same, ensuring every battlefield is as deadly and unpredictable as the last.

Key game features

  • Alternate History Dieselpunk Setting – The Axis have seized control of Europe using giant mechanized warriors to turn the tide of the war.
  • Evolved-Real Time Tactics Gameplay – Each new region and battlefield you enter presents a new challenge with unique combinations of enemy waves and terrain.
  • Build The Ultimate Mech Squad – You have the freedom to customise and configure your squad of Mechs and Pilots to adapt your tactics for each new mission.

“We’re delighted to announce our first game with Megabit today,” said Kevin Campbell, Producer at Milky Tea. “We can’t wait for players to discover more of our vision for crafting a truly original roguelite experience, which combines popular mechanics from tower defense and strategy games, while spinning it into something fresh and exciting.”
