Update: 22/07/21 – Hindsight 20/20 will now be launching on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch and PC come September 9th 2021.

In need of a new action RPG to fill a void? Hindsight 20/20 is coming to Xbox One, PS4, PS5, Switch and PC this Spring.

We’ve known about Hindsight 20/20 from the BioWare, ArenaNet and Sucker Punch vets that make up Triple-I Games for some time, first revealing news surrounding the game back in April of 2019. Now though the game is getting set to launch across multiple platforms this Spring and alongside the previously revealed Xbox One, PS4, Switch and PC offerings will be a proper PS5 drop. That doesn’t mean Xbox Series X players won’t be able to get involved though – back compat for the win!

Hindsight 20/20: Wrath of the Raakshasa – to give the full name – will be bringing single-player action RPG gameplay mechanics to console and PC this Spring, dropping in a smattering of morality-based decisions for good measure. And whilst the old gen versions will be more than capable, it is the newly confirmed PS5 edition that looks set to wow the world – 4K/60FPS, significantly faster load times, and rendering enhancements including improved ambient occlusion, motion blur, and bloom.

But what is Hindsight 20/20? Well, the kingdom of Champaner cherishes life above all else, preferring to practice pacifism in place of wielding weapons, however when a virus begins transforming residents into bloodthirsty beasts known as Raakshasas and a destructive rift fills the sky, those sacred values quickly come into question. It is therefore left to one man – Jehan, a mysterious man with one arm – who unknowingly holds the fate of Champaner in the palm of his hand.

Having recently mourned the loss of his recently-murdered father, Jehan finds himself torn between the pacifism he was taught to revere and a strict need for revenge. It is here where we’ll come in, choosing between Merciful or Ruthless styles of combat, each with their own advantages and drawbacks. We’ll be able to strategically stun enemies to gain the respect of the people or eradicate foes quickly with a deadly sword; just be aware that each enemy and boss has different movesets and behaviours depending on the chosen style.

Throughout Hindsight 20/20, decisions will have long-lasting repercussions, impacting the game and delivering branching story paths. This will see choices appearing as obvious through dialogue or fighting methods, but destiny may have something completely unexpected in store for Jehan. You see, sometimes even travel time can make a difference – move too slowly or get distracted helping townspeople and Jehan might not make it in time to save the day.

In Hindsight 20/20 you’ll be found fighting humans and monsters through Merciful or Ruthless means to save the kingdom, earning new abilities for both styles of combat, stunning swathes of enemies or making jagged swords erupt from the ground. You’ll also be able to forge Jehan’s personal path in a fantastical world filled with magic and technology, rendered in a tragically beautiful watercolor style. Will you honor the societal pressure to remain vigilant, or descend into the madness within?

“We made the choice last year to utilize the extra time 2020 gave us and we are now ready to bring Hindsight to our wonderful followers and fans,” said Hemanshu Chhabra, creative director at Triple-I Games. “We amped up the choices, combat, cinematics, and even the framerate to make our game the best it can be when we launch later this year.”

We’ll be sure to let you know once Hindsight 20/20 becomes available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch and PC through Steam. Expect it in Q2 2021. For now, the trailer should suffice.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
