Death awaits. Everything IO Interactive has said or released about HITMAN 3 has pointed to endings. It’s ‘the dramatic conclusion to the World of Assassination trilogy’ we are told. Agent 47’s time is coming. We may never return to the Hitman universe. But if anyone was going to evade death, it was going to be our man 47. Having sent more people to their grave than twenty Solid Snakes, Hitman is better positioned than any to understand death, and how to give it a sidestep. And frankly, old 47 is the jewel in IO Interactive’s crown – are they really going to give him a heave-ho? Well, you’ll be able to find out from today, as HITMAN 3 is out now on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Google Stadia and PC.

Ignoring all of the ‘will he die or won’t he?’ marketing spiel, the real headline is that this is Hitman, optimised for Xbox Series X|S. It’s always been a good-looking series, distractingly so, as you’re trying to heave a dead body into a bath, and it looks like this is going to look just as stellar. IO Interactive are leaning into this with exotic locations – the trailer is selling what looks like Dubai pretty hard – and a focus on detail, which makes sense as Hitman’s joys often come from finding the most imaginative and optimal method of completing your mission. This is all powered by IO Interactive’s award-winning Glacier tech, which should encourage endless replayability.

Generously, HITMAN 3 also ports in your Hitman 1 and 2 saves in a couple of interesting ways. The first is to carry over your locations and maps, making HITMAN 3 a complete experience, while the second is to continue some of the narrative progress you made in Hitman 2.

Ultimately, though, this will be the chance to return to the things that Hitman does best: mingling in disguise, casing an environment for the best approach to an assassination, and then starting the chain of events that can’t be reversed from. It’s like a Rube-Goldberg device, but you’re the ball, rolling through a sequence of events that – you hope – you have set in place. It’s just, at the end, you garrotte someone and shimmy out of a window. Keep an eye out for our review of HITMAN 3 on Xbox Series X real soon.

HITMAN 3 is out now on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S from the Xbox Store. It’s also out on PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Stadia and PC. You should find a couple of different editions as well – the Standard option for £52.49 and then the Deluxe Edition for a cool £74.99. That latter choice gives the base game along with Deluxe Escalation Contracts, Deluxe Suits and Items, Digital Soundtrack, the “World of HITMAN” Book and some Director Commentary (Mission Introduction).

Game Description:
