We are nearly at the mid-point of 2021 – believe it or not. As we look ahead to what will hopefully be six months of freedom from the old COVID restrictions, and some blistering temperatures at least here in the UK, two new titles are coming free of charge to those with Xbox Live Gold.
Said titles are Shadows: Awakening and, perhaps the headline act for June 2021’s Games with Gold lineup, NetherRealm’s Injustice: God’s Among Us. Of course, these games are accompanied by The King’s Bird – a freebie that is ever-present throughout the month. However one title must fall by the wayside – say goodbye to NeoGeo Battle Coliseum, you shall be missed!
2018’s Shadows: Awakening brings players another taste of the Heretic Kingdoms saga, delivering a delightful isometric RPG to be experienced solo. The real-time combat on offer will constantly test your ability to micromanage your party of heroes, using their skills in your ongoing quest for world domination! You see, in a unique twist from the norm, you are playing the role of the baddies, as a Devourer summoned from the Shadow Realm; in order to dominate the Heretic Kingdom, you must take down the brave heroes ordered to put an end to your evil.
Shadows: Awakening certainly has a great blend of world-building and gameplay mechanics, and picking it up for free on the Xbox Store between now and July 15th will save you a neat £24.99.
Whilst it may be an oldie, Injustice: God’s Among Us is certainly a goodie, and is playable on your Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One thanks to the power of backwards compatibility. Or if you are still knocking about with an Xbox 360, then this one is also for you!
Heading down an alternate route in which Superman turns bad, killing the Joker and then pitting himself against Batman, the stage is set for one of the best superhero plots in history. Such a strange climate makes for equally strange relationships forming – who would have thought Batman would team up with Harley Quinn?!
Taking Mortal Kombat’s classic 2D fighting setup, Injustice also adds environmental interactions, ultimate abilities and, of course, an array of combos to master, and however you play – through the story mode, local multiplayer or if you take things online – Injustice is always a satisfying ‘easy to pick up, hard to master’ affair. Using the Xbox Store, you can pick up Injustice: God’s Among Us from now until the end of the month (so be quick!) for another saving of £24.99.
So, whatever your thoughts are on the Games with Gold scheme, you can’t scoff at another £50 worth of free games coming your way. As always, let us know in the comments below if you’ll be playing through these, if only for an escape from the heat!
