It’s a slam dunk – Basketball Pinball is on Xbox

We went a good couple of years with only a smattering of new pinball options coming to the table. But 2023 is the year of the lane-hitting, of the nudging, of hitting the backbox and of flipping things round the gobble hole as pinball gets exciting again. The latest to try its luck is that of Basketball Pinball.

Basketball Pinball arrives on the Xbox Store, playable on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S as a follow up to Touchdown Pinball, Jurassic Pinball and Dragon Pinball. Don’t for one minute think that because it’s got the word ‘Pinball’ in the title that these come from the pinball masters at Zen Studios – it’s Pinball FX which you should be playing if you like pinball – with these instead working their way out of the Super PowerUP Games stable. The ones we’ve played so far – Touchdown Pinball and Jurassic Pinball – haven’t been very good either.

We’re not expecting much to be different with the release of Basketball Pinball. What you should find here is a single table in which you can ping balls around for your pleasure. Running an arcade-styled design, all the usual pinball elements will be in place here – multiballs, skillshots, jackpots, a variety of lights and sounds. From there? Well, it’s anyone’s guess but we’ll be sure to hit this table hard for review purposes.

Basketball Pinball is obviously complete with all the high-scoring mechanics you would expect of a pinball game, with online leaderboards in place for those looking for bragging rights. From there, the following key features will keep you busy for an hour or so…

  • – Arcade design.
  • – Multiball, Extraball, Skillshot, Jackpots…
  • – Reproduction with all the details, lights and sounds.
  • – 4 different cameras to choose from.
  • – Online Leaderboard.

On the flipside, Basketball Pinball costs a mere £2.49 from the Xbox Store, with that discounted through the initial launch period. For such little outlay, we’d suspect many will find a reason to get hitting the lanes provided in this one.

Others will prefer to stick to Zen Studios’ newly rebooted Pinball FX – even with a Pinball Pass subscription service in place. Let us know which pinball gang you fall into.

Game Description:

Enjoy Basketball Pinball, jump on the board and prepare to make points to win this match, score slam dunks and three point shots. Discover all the secrets, complete all the missions and prove that you’re the number 1 in the world or the best among your Friends, posting your high score on the online leaderboard.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
