Should 8-player arcade action be what you are after, then there is only one game to stick on your wish list – Killer Queen Black… especially now that is has received an Xbox One release window!
Getting set to fly to Xbox One, Killer Queen Black which was previously announced for a Nintendo Switch and PC Q3 2019 release, will hit the best damn console the world has ever seen – Xbox One – in Q4 2019. Additionally, full cross-platform play will be in place.
A strategic eight-player arcade action platformer from the teams at Liquid Bit and BumbleBear Games, will aim to create a buzz on Xbox One, focusing on cooperation and communication. And you know what that means? The more players, the merrier!
You should therefore be getting ready to gather up your friends – either locally or online – in order to form two teams of four and fly onto the battlefield. From there on out it’ll be all about the Blue and Gold teams, with each consisting of one powerful Queen and three Workers. Armed with a stinger-sword and wings, the Queen excels in manoeuvrability and offense, while being responsible for claiming power-up gates that empower and upgrade Workers in exchange for berries strewn about the stage.
On the flip-side, and excelling in adaptability, it is the Workers who are essential to victory. Completely defenseless in their base state, Workers are initially only able to protect themselves by throwing berries at attackers, to buy time. However, by taking a berry to a power-up gate, they can gain speed boosts or become Soldiers – and it is here where they’ll become equipped with Swords, Laser Rifles, Morning Stars, and more, being able to take out other Workers or even the Queen herself. Should you get the chance to go one step further, and a Speed Soldier will be created by combining speed boosts with weapons.
All of the action in Killer Queen Black is locked onto one screen, so every character is visible throughout the match. Communicate and keeping an eye on the enemy as they strive for one of three victory conditions – Economic, Military, and Snail – is therefore key.
Economic Victories are earned when Workers collect berries and fill their hive before the other team can do the same, while Military Victories require three Queen kills in a single game. Snail Victories are secured when Workers slowly ride the snail in the middle of the stage into their own goal, unnoticed under a veil of chaos.
If you find yourself fighting well enough then you’ll be in for a chance to become the Black team. There can only be one Black team in the world at any given time, with this signified by their glowing outfits. Take them down and you will take their mantle, with these matches broadcast for the community to watch, making the prestige (and the outfits) highly-coveted.
“Killer Queen Black’s arcade roots give it a pick-up-and-play nature,” said Matt Tesch, co-founder of Liquid Bit. “Bringing the game to the Xbox One is another way for us to extend that accessibility so more people can join the ongoing battle.”
Will you be looking to spend time with Killer Queen Black on Xbox One? It certainly sounds an intriguing prospect and we’ll be sure to keep you fully up-to-date with the development in the months ahead. For now though, the trailer below will provide further details.
