It’ll soon be time to relive the game that kickstarted a whole love affair, as EA prepare to release Mass Effect Legendary Edition to Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5 and PC. It’s coming in May, with full details and date now confirmed.

Chances are you’ve played a Mass Effect title, but come May 14th 2021 you’ll be able to experience the original Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 in one awesome Legendary Edition.

Releasing on Xbox One, PS4 and PC through Origin and Steam, with forward compatibility and optimisation for Xbox Series X|S and PS5 in place, the Mass Effect Legendary Edition will let you experience the epic sagas in the best possible way.

It is this Mass Effect Legendary Edition which will feature the single-player base content and 40+ downloadable content additions, weapons and armor packs from Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3, all whilst letting players to get grips with the legend of Commander Shepard in 4K Ultra HD with HDR.

“It’s been an incredible journey revisiting the stories, characters and iconic moments of the Mass Effect trilogy, enhancing the experience for modern platforms while staying true to the spirit of the original,” said Mac Walters, Project Director on the Mass Effect Legendary Edition and lead writer of the original trilogy at BioWare. “Remastering a game, let alone three, is a huge undertaking as there’s over 100 hours of gameplay included, but we wanted to do this for our fans as well as a new generation of gamers looking to jump into the iconic story of Shepard.”

Forgetting about Mass Effect Andromeda, the Mass Effect Legendary Edition will deliver what we have come to expect from any form of remaster: an enhanced visual experience featuring remastered character models and tens of thousands of up-ressed textures, improvements to shaders and VFX, updated lighting and improved dynamic shadows, volumetrics and depth-of-field add a new level of immersion across the trilogy. Further to that, pre-rendered cinematics have also been enhanced to make every story moment feel even more impactful.

If you haven’t played Mass Effect previously, the original Mass Effect game features comprehensive world-building enhancements with added detail and depth to locations like Eden Prime, Ilos and Feros that players will explore in their journey across the galaxy. Mass Effect also includes updated interfaces and UI as well as a variety of quality-of-life improvements. Throw in combat and exploration which have been modernized through improved aiming, squad controls and behavior, Mako handling and cameras, and you’ve got pretty much everything you could wish for.

But that’s not all and the Mass Effect Legendary Edition also features unified character creation options that persists across all three titles, with this coming complete with an improved and expanded selection of hair, makeup and skin tone options. The iconic Female Shepard default appearance from Mass Effect 3 is now also going to be available as the default female Shepard appearance in character creation in all three games, further adding to the unified experience across the trilogy.

So, what are you doing come May 14th 2021? Sitting down for days on end with Shepard and the gang? We will be and would suspect many others will follow that tune. We will of course let you know once Mass Effect Legendary Edition hits home on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5 and PC. If you wish to pre-order it – the Xbox Store is holding the cards.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
