We already knew that Tour de France 2022 would be coming to Xbox, PlayStation and PC soon, but when it does drop we’ll find that Nacon and Cyanide Studies will be adding in a new competitive game mode – Race of the Moment.

Tour de France 2022 releases on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PSR, PS5 and PC from June 9th 2022, with all the usual Grand Tour opportunities present.

This year though we will see Nacon and Cyanide bring further options, most notably the Race of the Moment, as players see how they measure up against virtual cyclists from around the world.

The new Race of the Moment mode which, for the first time, lets players see how they can spin and grind against virtual cyclists from around the world will work on a weekly basis. Each week, players seeking competition are presented a new challenge, with these varying in ideas: riders can take control of a specific team or try to reach a certain goal, aiming to score the most points in a mountain stage or just top the rankings.

Each player’s weekly performance will be recorded and shown in an online leaderboard, so there can be a new winner each week. Take part and players are awarded bonus points according to their ranking; these points count toward the monthly and yearly ranking, and badges are awarded to indicate the best result.

The difficulty will be set the same for every competitor partaking in Race of the Moment and it will not be possible to save in the middle of a stage or to bring in replacements. Players must therefore develop the best strategy in order to beat their competitors.

The first races that will count for the annual ranking will begin on 1 July, the start date for the Grand Boucle. Seems a perfect fit if you ask us.

Tour de France 2022 will be available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC from June 9th 2022.

Stay tuned for a review from us soon, but until then, let us know if you’ll be partaking in the Race of the Moment. The comment section is below.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. Gamertag is neil363, feel free to add me to your list.
