Up Next – A look at the Xbox One games out in April 2017

-

A new month is here and that means a whole host of new Xbox games are on the horizon. It’s going to be a busy old April 2017 for your wallet too, especially if you’re one of those who are looking to add to your current collection of Xbox One titles. But what is out this month? Let’s take a look.

[amazon_textlink asin=’B01JW8YN26′ text=’Sniper Ghost Warrior 3′ template=’ProductLink’ store=’the03da-21′ marketplace=’UK’ link_id=’b7d813a8-1608-11e7-a5b9-09eeb76e8527′]

The whole sniping vibe is really beginning to heat up on the Xbox One market this year. With one such title already releasing onto Xbox One and stunning fans of long range shooting, Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 has a lot to do if it wants to be top dog on our consoles.

In an attempt to prevent another Cold War occurring, American sniper Jonathan North will have to infiltrate the country of Georgia and carry out a whole host of missions to accomplish his goal. Instead of the more linear, tactical gameplay SGW fans are used to – the third instalment in the series will put you in an open-world, free to carry out side-missions known as ‘war crimes’ as you please.

While you can approach any mission head on, firing on all cylinders… the name of the game is kinda in the title. To have the most success you should probably scout out the nearest sniper area using a drone (because it’s 2017 and that’s the ‘in’ thing right now). With you proceeding to use all the technology you have at your disposal, as well as having to compensate for bullet drop and all that sniping jazz, before you take that all important shot that could make or break your entire plan.

Why Should You Buy It? With a realistic open-world to play around in, and a heavy emphasis on navigation and scouting, Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 is the game that will really put all your sniping skills to the test.

[amazon_textlink asin=’B01N5I9QXO’ text=’Yooka-Laylee’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’the03da-21′ marketplace=’UK’ link_id=’ccf72e21-1608-11e7-83d6-ddad6ec58794′]

I’m just gonna get it out of the way – Yooka-Laylee was definitely created with Banjo and Kazooie in mind, and anyone who enjoyed seeing the bear/bird combo on our screens back in the day, will equally love the new platforming, enemy bashing, feather collecting duo – that of chameleon Yooka and his adorable bat buddy Laylee.

Together they will help you progress through the game, unlocking new abilities that they can use to access new areas that were previously unable to be reached. But just because Yooka-Laylee has been made to appeal to fans of nostalgia does not mean it cannot stand on its own four feet and two wings. While it takes elements of platforming and puzzle solving from the N64 classic to heart, Yooka-Laylee encompasses some new features tailored towards the modern gamer, such as a cooperative mode complete with multiplayer games for you and a buddy to enjoy.

Why Should You Buy It? With some wacky new characters to look out for, a whole host of collectibles to find, all wrapped up by an amazing nostalgic soundtrack – Yooka-Laylee is surely one of the most anticipated games of 2017!

[amazon_textlink asin=’B01NBU6D6F’ text=’Little Nightmares’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’the03da-21′ marketplace=’UK’ link_id=’e0e912e4-1608-11e7-bf39-f1ab0c881d89′]

Ever since it first showed up on the radar last year, I think it is safe to say that none of us have a single clue as to what is going on in the dark, twisted world of Little Nightmares. All we know is that a young girl, known only as Six, must escape The Maw, a crazy resort that caters for the absurdly rich and powerful – before you are captured by the creepy looking monsters that inhabit the area, such as the chefs we are all too familiar with now.

Expect to be hiding under and around any kitchen units imaginable as you plan your movements to perfection, because your wits and small size are the only things you have over the terrifying monsters that you will encounter.

Why Should You Buy It? Little Nightmares explains it all really. You are little in this world of horror – be prepared to have nightmares!

[amazon_textlink asin=’B01N6C1X9F’ text=’LEGO City Undercover’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’the03da-21′ marketplace=’UK’ link_id=’f812f275-1608-11e7-adb8-17c1993a9caf’]

Debuting on the Wii U back in 2013, cool cop minifigure Chase Mccain is back in a remastered version of the open-world LEGO adventure, and it is up to him to capture criminals across LEGO City and put an end to their wrath. But it isn’t all child’s play, as Chase will regularly come across obstacles in his job such as being dropped from cases, and also being forced to commit crimes to infiltrate criminal gangs – Sleeping Dogs style, with less of the bloodshed. Obviously.

The player will have a variety of police equipment and vehicles at their disposal to traverse the world and rid it of crime, ultimately taking out the crime lord, Rex Fury.

Why Should You Buy It? Well established on the Nintendo scene, LEGO City Undercover has a wide open world to explore and deploy your policing power in – coupled with that quick-witted LEGO humour that we are all accustomed to.

[amazon_textlink asin=’B06X93KY5C’ text=’Just Cause 3 Gold Edition’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’the03da-21′ marketplace=’UK’ link_id=’825d5c26-160a-11e7-9030-f50b86a8c6b4′]

One and a half years is a long old time in the gaming world, and it may be hard to believe but it has been that long since Avalanche and Square Enix’s Just Cause 3 exploded onto the Xbox scene, boasting a huge open world, an array of vehicles and a plethora of devastating weapons for Rico Rodriguez, complete with signature grapple hook and wingsuit, to overcome corruption in the beautiful Italian island of Medici.

But it is true and April is the month to jump back into Just Cause 3.

Soon, you will be able to get your mitts on Just Cause 3 Gold Edition, a complete edition of Just Cause 3 full to the brim of content to enjoy. Not only will the Gold Edition come with the three pieces of DLC previously released; Sky Fortress, Mech Land Assault and Bavarium Sea Heist, but also comes with the Weaponised Vehicle Pack, Explosive Weapon Pack, Reaper Missile Mech and Kousavá Rifle.

Why Should You Buy It? As anyone who has already played Just Cause 3 will tell you, the fun you can have with this game stretches on for hours…and this one comes with even more content.

[amazon_textlink asin=’B06XHCSHVW’ text=’Outlast Trinity’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’the03da-21′ marketplace=’UK’ link_id=’13d0ff5a-1609-11e7-b892-edd1a8264d1e’]

There isn’t much scarier on the Xbox One market at the moment than Outlast, and in a move best for gamers who haven’t played through the survival horror – or its add-on Whistleblower – Warner Bros and Red Barrels have announced Outlast Trinity; one box holding Outlast, Whistleblower and the yet to be released Outlast 2.

While you can pick up Outlast 2 digitally the same day as this trilogy lands, Outlast Trinity is really the way to go if you want to visit Mount Massive Asylum as journalist Miles Upshur for the first time, and continue the frights with the Whistleblower DLC and the all new Outlast 2.

Why Should You Buy It? Outlast Trinity is the best bundle for anyone wanting to experience the full released Outlast experience, and the deal is made even sweeter with Outlast 2 being put in there as well.

[amazon_textlink asin=’B01H6PUIJE’ text=’Valhalla Hills – Definitive Edition’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’the03da-21′ marketplace=’UK’ link_id=’1eea078a-1609-11e7-b481-d106451736f9′]

A definite spin on the traditional city building sim, Valhalla Hills tasks you with creating your own Viking paradise, after the Viking God Odin himself has shut Valhalla’s doors so no vikings are able to go to the afterlife after they die.

Tasked with caring for all these new Viking arrivals, you must create a new civilization for them to live in by building homes, but also growing food and crafting what is needed, with the main aim being able to lead your viking buddies to the top of the tallest mountain so they can enter Valhalla themselves.

Why Should You Buy It? Surprisingly not the most popular viking based title to be released this year – you have For Honor for that – Valhalla – Definitive Edition is a calmer, less gory title for any fans out there.

[amazon_textlink asin=’B01NAEDVM8′ text=’Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’the03da-21′ marketplace=’UK’ link_id=’2ac5c3e9-1609-11e7-bc7f-31e6f87379f8′]

Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition is bringing back the space-pirate shooter with a new remaster – which means smoother framerates and better audio, providing a better experience overall from the original game which released all the way back in 2011.

What’s more, the Full Clip Edition includes all the previous DLC for the game as well as 12 co-op maps. But arguably the real seller is the opportunity to play as Duke Nukem himself, complete with voice acting from the original Duke. While Mr Nukem hasn’t had the best rep in recent times, it just feels right to have the voice of the Duke while you blow enemies to pieces with crazy weapons – and the opportunity to have all the Skillshot and weapons available from the very start (provided you have completed the campaign) just seals the deal.

Why Should You Buy It? Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition is perfect for anyone new to the series who want the ultimate crazy experience with exiled assassin Grayson Hunt.

[amazon_textlink asin=’B00ZFQC9QW’ text=’Dark Souls III: The Fire Fades’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’the03da-21′ marketplace=’UK’ link_id=’3725569c-1609-11e7-9fda-ebcf4a274502′]

It is safe to say that the relationship between Dark Souls and gamers is a bit love-hate. No matter how many times you die, you simply cannot rage quit; you must push on and the satisfaction gained when you finally take out that boss is immense.

Soon, the ultimate Dark Souls III package will be coming our way with The Fire Fades. Labelled as the game’s GOTY edition, The Fire Fades will pack the original game with all the DLC released – the Ashes of Ariandel and The Ringed City – so you will have plenty of content to fight through. This presumably means you will be addicted for another good 100 hours or so!

Why Should You Buy It? If you have finally mustered up the courage to have a crack at Dark Souls III, what better way to do it than with all the content in one box?

[amazon_textlink asin=’B01MUHSVQN’ text=’Stardew Valley Collectors Edition’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’the03da-21′ marketplace=’UK’ link_id=’08773215-160b-11e7-978e-f914f6a89aa7′]

Sometimes we just want a bit of a break from the exhilarating and fast-paced world of AAA games, so Stardew Valley is a welcome break for some.

Basically, you inherit your grandfather’s farm and away you go; exploring the town, maintaining your farm, and obtaining quests from the residents of the town. Stardew Valley is the closest thing Xbox gamers will get to that popular Nintendo franchise, Animal Crossing, and the Collector’s Edition gets you some physical gifts to remember the game by. As well as including a map of Pelican Town, anyone who buys the Collector’s Edition will be given the soundtrack of the game and a mini-guidebook to help you in the early stages of living the farm-life and settling down.

Why Should You Buy It? Stardew Valley: Collector’s Edition gifts you with freedom of the countryside, and is a perfect for a quick relaxing gaming session.

[amazon_textlink asin=’B06XJ3B3CZ’ text=’Syndrome’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’the03da-21′ marketplace=’UK’ link_id=’7c440a9f-1609-11e7-b901-fd0bcc0e3b98′]

Resident Evil. Outlast. Syndrome. Old-school survival horror at its simplest.

Trapped on a drifting spaceship, you have awoken from cryosleep to see all your co-workers gone, with terrifying monsters now in their place. Expect to have just a few weapons to use and even less ammunition to ward off any enemies. So there is the option to fight the enemies, but with their superior speed, and ability to kill, you should probably stick to the shadows and avoiding the monstrosities all together.

Why Should You Buy It? With claustrophobic dark rooms, a lack of firepower, and a more powerful evil, Syndrome is what you need to quench your first for survival horror.

[amazon_textlink asin=’B01N38G5UF’ text=’Portal Knights’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’the03da-21′ marketplace=’UK’ link_id=’c0c015be-1609-11e7-813d-d13386de1364′]

We all love a good action RPG to sink our teeth into and the newest one to do so is Portal Knights – an action RPG which has a twist.

Coming in the form of randomly generated environments and hundreds of weapons, costumes and spells to defeat your foes, Portal Knights lets you get on with it either solo, with a split screen buddy or in tandem with up to three online players. Furthermore, Portal Knights has a huge emphasis on crafting new weapons to make yourself the most unstoppable knight, ready to tackle the Portal Guardians – some of the toughest bosses in the game.

Why Should You Buy It? Every now and then a game comes along that doesn’t seem huge, but with the hundreds of items to use, and with some friends as well, Portal Knights could well take up a lot of your time.

[amazon_textlink asin=’B00LOSGLPU’ text=’Constructor’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’the03da-21′ marketplace=’UK’ link_id=’cedbfe5e-1609-11e7-b6dd-5f4bb21f7ee0′]

It isn’t everyday that you see a game from the last millennium, but Constructor is getting an HD re-release on Xbox One.

Basically, you are put in control of a construction company in a town full of other companies who are all vying to put you out of business. By balancing your ability to build houses, move people into those homes and get them contributing in money terms, it’ll be up to you to make your business the best in the town.

Why Should You Buy It? If you have ever really fancied being a construction company boss, in a world where all the other construction companies are willing to shut you down… well I guess Constructor is really for you.

[amazon_textlink asin=’B01LNTCPGS’ text=’Syberia 3′ template=’ProductLink’ store=’the03da-21′ marketplace=’UK’ link_id=’e73cd618-1609-11e7-8351-cda08e3bf76e’]

I’m not really too sure how snow ostriches have fared over the last few years, but with Syberia 3 we will soon be finding out.

As the player, you will assume control over Kate Walker, a lady who is in the most unfortunate position of finding herself adrift on a makeshift boat, That is before she is rescued by the weird Youkol people. The thing is, the Youkol have a crazy tradition – accompanying snow ostriches on their annual migration.

Yep, I don’t know either.

Why Should You Buy It? Snow ostriches. Do you need any other reason?

[amazon_textlink asin=’B06WP73CQP’ text=’Lock’s Quest’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’the03da-21′ marketplace=’UK’ link_id=’f5a298ae-1609-11e7-800a-d50b3211f7fe’]

Lock’s Quest has experienced it all, but now Lock is preparing to tackle a new audience on the Xbox One.

Following the journey of Lock, Locks Quest tells the tale of a young boy who finds his village being invaded, triggering a full out war between two warring factions of Kingdom Force and Clockwork Army. Across multiple levels, you will have to lay down various weapons such as turrets and spells, improving your defences day by day as you ward off ever smarter enemies.

Why Should You Buy It? If you know of Lock’s Quest, then you know exactly why you should be buying it on Xbox One.

[amazon_textlink asin=’B01GGQBV3G’ text=’ATV Renegades’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’the03da-21′ marketplace=’UK’ link_id=’557a3124-1608-11e7-b542-c9066bd8083f’]

Do you enjoy mashing it up on a quad bike? You’re going to love ATV Renegades.

A quad bike racer from Nighthawk Interactive, ATV Renegades will have you hitting various locations around the globe, as you battle it out with other quad bikers in an attempt to cross the line in first place. Nitro charges, mid-air tricks and some of the most rough terrain you can imagine will all be in place to bring you the definitive quad biking racer, whether that be in the solo career, or across the split screen multiplayer offering that is in place.

Oh, it should be good for a bit of TT’ing action too!

Why Should You Buy It? Racing in itself isn’t new, but if you’re looking for a quad-focused experience, then little else will suffice.

So there we have it – a busy old month in which our wallets are going to take a bit of a battering. Which of the games above will you be picking up? Make sure you let us know in the comments below.
