You may have heard of Shiro Games, for it is they who were behind 2013’s Evoland, the acclaimed sequel, Evoland 2, and the launch of the popular Viking strategy affair of Northgard on Steam Early Access in February 2017. Now though it is that latter game – Northgard – which will be making its way to Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PS4, with Shiro Games confirming a 2019 release. Oh, and there’s a nifty little trailer to take in too.

Embarking on an Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch launch later in 2019, Northgard is a game steeped in Norse mythology. The acclaimed Viking strategy game allows players to control a Viking clan found exploring and settling new territories that are filled with untold riches, all while fighting off hordes of magical foes, including dire wolves, undead warriors, giants, and dragons.

In order to make a success of things, and to bring both fame and fortune to their clan, players must carefully manage resources, trade with rival clans, befriend or vanquish mythical creatures, survive harsh winters, and conquer unforgiving lands.

Come the release of Northgard on console we’ll find the same game as that of the base Steam release, featiuring all of the content included there including the major Relics and Ragnarok updates: six clans, a lengthy campaign, co-operative and competitive online modes across a variety of maps featuring the apocalyptic-themed Ragnarok, ranked play, and much more.

To ensure that this console launch is a worthwhile experience though, Shiro Games has crafted a controller layout that makes playing feel effortless, revamping the experience with a completely new user interface. And with Northgard having moved more than 1 million copies and having come out of Early Access in March 2018, there is plenty of reason for us simple console folk to be anticipating it hugely.

“We are very happy to reveal we are bringing Northgard to all three consoles later this year,” said Sebastien Vidal, CEO and co-founder, Shiro Games. “We have worked hard to optimize Northgard for the controller and to be played on the go in the Switch version. All the content of the original version will be available at launch. This includes the campaign mode, multiplayer, all six clans and much more!”

Make sure you check out the trailer below for Northgard and then hold tight to find it releasing on Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch later in 2019.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
