It’s been long awaited in PC circles yet just as Ultimate Game look set to hit the go button on a Steam Early Access launch, confirmation comes through that Ultimate Summer, the super bloody mix of carnage and Tower Defense will also be coming to console, with Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch options laid on the table.
Created by the Polish dev team at Asmodev, and rolled out by Ultimate Games (they behind the previously announced Farm Mechanic Simulator), Ultimate Summer combines elements of classic shooters like Serious Sam with that new fangled Tower Defense idea. when it releases on console and PC in full you’ll find a game that focuses on nothing more than utter solo player mayhem as you go about building and setting traps, gathering up resources, and, ultimately, creating towers of destruction.
This won’t just be your every day standard Tower Defense experience though – expect it to come across as the bloodiest TD game in history. Why? Well, because the story of a retired butcher who just so happens to find himself going up against the forces of Heaven, Hell, Purgatory, Cthulhu, Carnivores and Aliens, demands it.
“We wanted to create a painfully generic tower defense title. In part, we’ve succeeded, because it is indeed an old chestnut of a game. In part, we haven’t, because it tastes fresh and bloody. It’s because we’ve also added mechanics typical for other genres. Gathering resources, a selection of weapons to choose from, shops, skill development, Heaven, Hell, aliens, blood…” – raves Mim, one of the creators. “It’s a low-budget release available at a fair, low price. Ultimate Summer was born out of the fascination with Castle Fight, a mod for Warcraft III. We’re not very creative, so we just stole some of the solutions, in tribute to the original devs” – admits Mim.
Features include:
- A mix of a shooter and a tower defense game
- Unforgettable story
- Ability to harvest resources and souls
- Heaven, Hell, Purgatory, Cthulhu, Carnivores and Aliens
- 30 types of enemies and 14 bosses
- Many weapons, even more traps and towers
- Set in the Asmodev universe
With a 15th Jan Early Access launch on Steam, if you wish to see what Ultimate Summer is all about, that is your best port of call. Failing that hold until further down the line in 2021 or possibly even 2022 when we’ll see Ultimate Summer hit Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch.
