You can rave all you like about the death of the battle royale genre, and whilst there is no doubt that the likes of Fortnite, Apex Legends and even the OG – PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) – aren’t what they used to be in terms of numbers, the latter is still fighting on with the twelfth season of content. Let’s take a look at what PUBG Season 12 is introducing, hopefully to entice us back to the battlegrounds…
With Season 12 already present on PC since the 2nd June, now marks the time for console players – namely those on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4 and Stadia – can get in on the action. There’s a wealth of map and weapon additions that are the most headline-worthy additions, not least the remaster of the notorious Miramar map. Whilst the map received a slight makeover back in 2019, it is being updated with KRAFTAN’s latest technologies to bring it in line with the other maps, including Paramo and Haven.
As well as visual upgrades, the promise of a brand new weapon – the Lynx AMR – for all of your anti-vehicle needs should go some way to excite returning players. Furthermore, to traverse the desert landscape of Miramar, the quad bike is thrown in as a new vehicle; expect to be having some pretty intense gunfights on these beastly vehicles, much like a more violent iteration of Mario Kart: Double Dash!
On a larger scale, the team at KRAFTAN have formulated a new Weapon Skin Upgrade system alongside the new ranked Season. This system involves you evolving the cosmetics of your favourite weapons using in-game resources. Find yourself lucky enough to open the Weapon Skin Lucky Box, and such evolutionary skins unlocked kit out your weapons with unique features as you level them up through gameplay.
Talking of leveling up, and the competitive gamers amongst us will be happy to see the start of a new ranked season come with Season 12. Any rewards you gained from the previous ranked season will be automatically added into your inventory upon booting up the game from today.
Season 12 also marks the introduction of two new skins via the PUBG x El Solitario collaboration: the “El Solitario Biker Set” and “El Solitario Wolf Set” each kit out your avatar with a unique helmet, body suit and more.
Oh, and all that is to brush over the football added to the pre-game lobby! FIFA 21, eat ya’ heart out!
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is available from the Xbox Store for £14.99 – get out there and bring back those chicken dinners!
