Flat Kingdom Paper’s Cut Edition Xbox

The move from 2D visuals to 3D in videogames was a seismic shift that propelled gaming into the mainstream. But it never occurred to me that maybe the 2D protagonists didn’t want to gain a 3rd dimension. Maybe they were content enough being flat. This latest title ported to consoles by Ratalaika Games takes that concept and puts it in a platformer. Flat Kingdom Paper’s Cut Edition is out today on Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.

In a 2D world, the residents know that their days living as flat as pancakes are numbered. The local sorcerer therefore creates six magical jewels to hold the encroaching third dimension away. However, when one of these is stolen, balance is disrupted and only one person can keep the 2D world as it is.

Unsurprisingly, you play as that person. As Flat, you can transform into a circle, triangle and square, and use these shapes to navigate around this 2D papercraft world. It might look like Paper Mario on paper – pardon the pun – but this is much more focussed on platforming and puzzle solving.

Flat Kingdom Paper’s Cut Edition also features:

  • Jump into a beautiful papercraft world.
  • Test your might with epic and challenging battles against giant bosses.
  • Uncover all of the game’s secrets! There are side quests, upgrades and all kinds of surprises.
  • Learn all about the kingdom’s lore and history by finding hidden scrolls.
  • Music by legendary composer Manami Matsumae!

Did we mention that this is a Ratalaika Games title? We have checked the list and yes, it is another super easy 1000G for the achievement hunters to unlock.

Available to download now, Flat Kingdom Paper’s Cut Edition is priced at £7.99 on the Xbox Store. There is an introductory discount for those who are quick, dropping the price down to £6.39 for a limited time. Our review is also coming soon, stay tuned. For now, let us know in the comments which 2D videogame icon would have hated the transition to 3D the most.

Game descriptionFlat Kingdom Paper’s Cut Edition is set in a beautiful 2D land, but now it’s threatened by 3D malice and chaos. A wise sorcerer created six magical jewels that kept the effects of the third dimension at bay, granting peace and prosperity. However, one day an evil masked thief named Hex disrupted the balance and made the chaos return. The only who can stop the chaos is Flat, a little hero able to change into a circle, triangle or square in order to solve puzzles, overcome obstacles and defeat giant bosses!
