The Blue Hour and new-gen versions arrive in Slipstream

When it comes to true old-school arcade racers brought forward to the modern era, you can’t go wrong with a bit of Slipstream. This colourful, Daytona-esque racer launched back in 2022, and we praised its exhilarating action. However, the repetitive nature of its game modes soon tired, and as such, we’ve been looking forward to the launch of its free content. Welcome the Blue Hour and some new-gen Xbox Series X|S optimisation.

The Clock Strikes Blue

The ‘blue hour’, as explained by developers Andsor Games, is a brief period before night. It’s one that covers the world in a beautiful, deep blue colour. With the release of the blue hour content expansion today on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC, Ansdor wanted to capture this beauty. They are doing so with a series of new features and tracks. Sandro de Paula, AKA Andsor, had this to say on the release:

The blue hour is a brief period of the day, after the sunset but before the night, when the sky takes on a deep blue tone. It’s long been appreciated by painters and photographers because of the beautiful and unique properties of light during this time. The fading light from the sun illuminates everything softly, and the deep blue sky creates a great contrast with the usually yellow-ish urban lamps. It’s a moment of natural beauty that happens every day. And as times of the day have always been a theme in Slipstream, in this expansion I joined forces with Effoharkay and took the opportunity to explore it a little more.

Swathes of Free Content

Content has certainly not been skimped on with the Slipstream blue hour expansion. We are treated to three new cars, five tracks, and two new game modes. The latter should let us tackle each track once again, for true Slipstream mastery!

Within the Marseille, Edinburgh, Pompeii, Transylvania and Granada tracks come new visual upgrades to the game. Expect to find the likes of improved fog and lighting. This is all, of course, set to some jazzy retro tunes composed by Stefan Moser (Effoharkay).

Slipstream Xbox Series X|S and PS5 Upgrades

Finally, to coincide with the blue hour expansion, Slipstream is getting a dedicated Xbox Series X|S native version. A similar PS5 version will follow suit. This means that there is no better time to experience the game for yourself, especially if you are an Xbox Series X|S user.

Blue hour is a true celebration of Slipstream as it reaches its 5th anniversary. The game is available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, Switch and PC. To pick up a copy on Xbox, it is available via the Xbox Store for £7.99.

Game Description

Slipstream is a racing game inspired by the visuals, music, games and cars from the late 80s and early 90s. It’s built with an authentic retro feel and unique graphics. The soundtrack, drawing from synthpop and jazz fusion influences, sets the tone for a race across a variety of exotic locations from all around the world, including cities, deserts, forests, mountains and beaches. Drifting and slipstreaming mechanics add depth to the driving gameplay, and the result is a challenging and exciting experience.
