Late last year, Square Enix announced they were cutting back on the proposed DLC for Final Fantasy XV, but did promise that Episode Ardyn was still coming, along with another animated prequel similar to what Brotherhood was to the main game. We now have some further details on what will be coming in Episode Ardyn.

Firstly, the prologue is now available to watch online:

You won’t have long to wait either after watching this, as Episode Ardyn will be available to download for Final Fantasy XV on Tuesday 26th March 2019, on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Episode Ardyn is set 35 years before the events of Final Fantasy XV just after Ardyn has been released from prison, as he sets off on his journey for vengeance against the Lucian royal family.

Ardyn will be able to navigate the map with ease using Shadow-Stepping, allowing him to fly across the map. His villainous powers also allow him to devastate enemies, and familiar – but younger looking – faces will be popping up, as well as new characters such as the scientist Verstael Besithia and the priestess Aera Mirus Fleuret.

But all that cancelled DLC has not been completely forgotten. Plans are in place to bring over the currently Japanese-exclusive Final Fantasy XV – Dawn of the Future novel that contains the stories of the cancelled DLC. This is due to be released on 25th April in Japan, but it has been confirmed an English version is on the way.

So it’s time to dust off your copy one last time in preparation for the tale of how Final Fantasy XV’s baddie became so evil. Let us know in the comments or via the usual social media channels (Twitter and Facebook especially) how long it takes you to find your original copy again!
