Thought you knew everything about Lakeshore City and Need for Speed Unbound? Think again as Volume 2 rolls out, giving racers the chance to tear up the streets once more, unlocking all the secrets of the map as they go.

Running today as a new update to EA’s Need for Speed Unbound, Volume 2 introduces us to new upgrades, additional events, more Daily Challenges and the opportunity to take in a host of new rides – one of which could well be seen as the ultimate in luxury.

Need for Speed Unbound first released on Xbox, PlayStation and PC at the back end of 2022, gathering up a 4/5 review from us as we spoke of the intense racing action, the fun car upgrading and arcade moments. There were bits we didn’t like quite so much, but perhaps blame that on our age and the fact we didn’t feel at one with the culture. On the whole it was a return to form for Need for Speed as a franchise.

It’s a game that has plenty to offer though and that is no more true with the launch of the Volume 2 content. It’s this which will roll to all players who have Need for Speed Unbound in their digital library – whether that be on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 or PC – adding in some new ways to hit the streets, with additional events and Rumble Races. From there come new ways to play too – some forty add new Challenges including Daily options come to the fore, whilst more Hot Laps circuits and Playlist Events should bring even more variety. Compete in these and do well and you’ll be treated to rewards, including a Rare Custom Lotus Emira Balmain Edition.

As you’d probably expect to hear with Need for Speed Unbound, there will be a new range of driving effects, poses, stickers and more present too. We’re not anywhere near as bothered by these bits as we are the cars and the racing, but it’s a nice drop for those who want it.

Much more exciting though is the launch of some paid DLC in the form of the Keys to the Map DLC. Priced up at around $4.99, this unlocks the entire NFS Unbound map, dropping pins on all 260 of the collectibles on offer. These are split between Bears, Street Art, Billboards and activities, but should you decide to pay up, you’ll also find access to the exclusive Fury and Zen clothing pack.

In all, Volume 2 of Need for Speed Unbound brings…

  • New Ways to Hit the Streets: Enjoy a plethora of additional content, including Endurance Events and brand-new Rumble Races. Players can also provoke cops into thrilling high-speed multiplayer chases with the help of friends, or turn the tables to play against them to earn the biggest rewards.
  • More Ways to Play: Compete in 40 new challenges, including 3 new daily challenges to earn rewards including XP and Bank; players can also take on new Hot Laps circuits for an intense 30-second rush as they race against the clock to earn new reward content. New Playlist Events inject even more variety into the mix; complete Playlists to earn big rewards, including a Rare Custom Lotus Emira Balmain Edition.
  • Rewards: Players can show off their style on the streets of Lakeshore with new driving effects, poses, stickers and more.
  • Keys to the Map DLC: Available for $4.99, this DLC reveals the map location of all 260 collectibles (100 Bears, 80 Street Art, and 80 Billboards) and 160 activities. It also comes with an exclusive “Fury and Zen” clothing pack, including a jacket, T-shirt, sweatpants and cap.

You should be finding Need for Speed Unbound Volume 2 appearing on a console near you today. The paid Keys to the Map DLC will be found on your favourite digital store – we’re buying that immediately, if only as we need to know where our last few Bears are!

If you don’t yet own Unbound, get over to the likes of the Xbox Store and pick it up.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
