At some point Dovetail Games will have covered the entire globe in Train Sim World 2. Until that time though, it seems as if they’ll continue to expand the base game with a host of new routes. Today it’s they who are delivering the iconic Horseshoe Curve to railway fanatics.

American railroad history has arrived in Train Sim World 2 with the Horseshoe Curve add-on now in place on both PC and console. If you’ve got a copy of the game on your format of choice, this is about as much of a no-brainer as you’re likely to see.

Train Sim World 2: Horseshoe Curve comes to Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, following on from a whole host of other great DLC packs that come before it. This one is priced at £24.99 (the Xbox Store link is here) and you may well consider that a fairly hefty hit for what is just an add-on, but as previously proven by Dovetail, you should expect a ton of content – a new route, two new locos, and eight types of modern freight equipment to drive along a multitude of scenarios and timetabled services.

It’s about here that the press blurb must kick in, if only as those behind Train Sim World 2 will be able to describe what is found in Horseshoe Curve: Altoona – Johnstown & South Fork much better than we ever possibly could.

An engineering marvel completed in the 1850’s, Horseshoe Curve is rich with American history and drama. Today it is a part of the Norfolk Southern’s Pittsburgh Line, running from the bustling shop town of Altoona, PA across the rugged Alleghenies to Johnstown, PA, and it remains as vital, captivating, and important as ever.

It’s here where the teams at Dovetail and Skyhook Games have included 15 miles of the historic and coal-rich South Fork Secondary, expanding the main line to Windber, PA. The tracks travel through the mountainous region surrounded by lush forests for a visual delight, passing by legendary landmarks including the Gallitzin Tunnels, the steep and treacherous “Slide” east from the summit, and the fabulous 1.8 percent, 2,375-foot-long curve at Kittanning Point. Drivers will need to remain vigilant on the many services on this challenging route.

To do battle with the Alleghanies and haul diverse traffic including intermodal, coal, manifest, autos, oil, and more, players will need the throttle of Norfolk Southern’s (NS) ultra-modern 4,000 horsepower General Electric ES44AC, or NS’s venerable 2,000 horsepower EMD GP38-2 diesel-electric powered locos. Each loco features highly detailed, feature-rich driving cabs with true-to-life performance and handling and will be responsible for hauling the eight types of modern freight equipment including open top mill gondola’s for heavier materials and tank cars to transport a variety of important liquids through the region.

All in, Train Sim World 2: Horseshoe Curve features a ton of greatness, including:

  • • 40-mile (64 km) route from Altoona to Johnstown, Pennsylvania
    • o Also includes 18-mile (29 km) South Fork Branch to Windber, Pennsylvania
  • • GE ES44AC diesel and EMD GP38-2 locos in Norfolk Southern livery
    • o Open top mill gondola, TOFC flatcar, Coal hopper, Three bay covered hopper, Box car, Ballast hopper, Doublestack container car and tank car
  • • Journey Mode featuring over 24 hours of activities to master
    • o Accessible Training Modules and eight detailed and engaging scenarios
    • o Extensive 24-hour Timetable
  • • Livery Designer, Scenario Planner and Creators Club compatible
