Are you ready to join the Thunder Kid once more? Yep, the low-poly run-and-gun madness has returned.

We’re be honest, we weren’t overly enthused by the initial release of Thunder Kid earlier in 2022, as we went on the Hunt for the Robot Emperor. Granted, it was a cheap enough experience to take in and it filled our Gamerscore fix with ease, but other than that it was a pretty forgettable run-and-gun journey.

That’s not stopping the Eastasiasoft team though and as the Robot Empire returns, so does the Thunder Kid in the catchily titled Thunder Kid II: Null Mission.

This time around you get to go on a bit of a hostage rescue mission, tracking down the robot foes and destroying them before it is too late. With a retro visual take, the promise of frantic bullet hell action and the chance to navigate our way through a host of environments, there’s a chance that Thunder Kid II: Null Mission could well be a sequel worth taking in.

Of course, there’s a chance it may not ever build on what went before it, but we’ll be sure to cover all eventualities in our full review. Stay tuned for that.

If you are sold, either due to wondering what on earth Thunder Kid is all about, or because you’re after some more easy Gamerscore, then the key features of Thunder Kid II: Null Mission are…

  • Run, jump and shoot in third-person perspective!
  • Enjoy colorful low-poly 3D presentation.
  • Dodge enemy attacks in a frantic blend of bullet hell action!
  • Traverse a wide variety of environments, from swamps to cityscapes.
  • Replay cleared stages at any time to improve your skills!

You’ll find Thunder Kid II: Null Mission present on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch. The Xbox Store is here.

Game Description:

Low-poly run ‘n’ gun action returns for another explosive mission! The Robot Empire is back, and this time, they’re kidnapping all the humans! Take the role of Thunder Kid once again, rescue the hostages and track down the enemy’s mysterious new leader before it’s too late! Take down enemy bots and massive enemies in a unique blend of retro style that can be enjoyed by casual players and speedrunners alike. Like its predecessor, Thunder Kid II: Null Mission is a low-poly 3D run ‘n’ gun action game controlled from behind the main character, shifting the perspective of genre classics and adding bullet hell elements while retaining its hallmark features. You’ll have to run, jump and shoot your way across colorful and varied 3D environments, from caves and swamps to cityscapes and even the skies, all set to an energizing chiptune soundtrack!

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
