The vertically scrolling Vostok 2061 shoots ’em up on Xbox

Vertically scrolling shmup – Vostok 2061 hits Xbox

In our eyes, there is no better vertical scrolling shoot ’em up than the Sky Force series. But Vostok 2061 lands on Xbox to try and prove otherwise.

A new vertical shmup

Available right now on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S is Omni Games’ Vostok 2061. It comes with full optimisation for Xbox Series X|S consoles too, as well as Smart Delivery, meaning that no matter which console you play on, it’ll run the very best it can.

Priced at £8.39, Vostok 2061 comes to try and take that shmup crown from Sky Force – either Sky Force Reloaded or Sky Force Anniversary, we care not which. It does so by thrusting you into the spacesuit of a graduate fresh out of the Earth Aviation Academy, tasked with heading out to the deepest reaches of space.

As you may expect to hear, that space is filled with danger. Unknown threats exist out in the ZPDN-A sector, and you need to put a stop to them. Of course, this just means you need to navigate your way through a series of stages, shooting the hell out of anything that moves. And even stuff that doesn’t.

The chance to free colonists as you go, or to escort some precious cargo ships also comes to the fore, meaning Vostok 2061 adds a few extra strings to its bow. You should be found building out your ship’s arsenal too.

Purchase and play now

We’re quite excited to see this one drop onto Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Stay tuned for a review from us soon, but in the meantime, you can grab a download for yourself.

The Xbox Store awaits your cash, before allowing you to initiate a download of Vostok 2061 on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
