It’s time for the sequel we’ve all been waiting for as the puzzling behemoths of Puyo Puyo and Tetris combine to create another epic crossover. Indeed, Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 is here to provide a whole load of Puyo-popping and Tetrimino-clearing enjoyment on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
Hot on the heels of the awesome Tetris Effect Connected, the Tetriminos are ready to go again as they’re teaming up with those small round creatures in Puyo Puyo Tetris 2. Whether it’s the traditional version of each franchise you’re looking to play, or a hybrid of the two, the core gameplay remains. Prepare to complete solid lines of blocks and match four or more Puyos of the same colour as you dump rubbish onto the playfield of your opposition. Be careful though, because the same could end up coming your way too.
No matter if you fancy stacking and chaining combos online or offline, there’s plenty of modes to delve into, including a single player Adventure. The classic Versus offering allows either player to pick their favourite puzzler and compete using the preferred gameplay style. Big Bang presents preset Puyo and Tetramino patterns to be cleared as fast as possible. Meanwhile, the Party mode introduces items and infinite lives in a bid to achieve the highest score.
While they seem fairly straightforward, there are other options which deliver much more creative concepts. The intriguing new Skill Battle brings in the need to create a team made up of three characters, each possessing unique skills. Through continued use, these characters receive improvements to their HP, MP, Attack, Defense, and Recovery attributes. And then there’s Fusion mode, which sees both Puyos and Tetriminos drop down simultaneously.
You can surely find lots of entertainment for up to four players from all of this and more, simply by spending your hard-earned cash on Puyo Puyo Tetris 2.
