When Paradox Development launched Stellaris: Console Edition on Xbox One, they promised the world and more. For the most part they delivered, with a massive experience filled with deep strategic gameplay and a huge complex galaxy to explore. Now though, the universe is getting bigger, with the arrival of standalone purchases of the Plantoids Species Pack alongside a Deluxe Upgrade.

Whilst the launch of Stellaris on Xbox One came in two flavours, it is only now that we see the real force of the Deluxe edition take hold, as the first new content pack – that of the Plantoids Species – arrive. This does as the name of the pack suggests, pushing out a new plant-like species to the world of Stellaris as it attempts to root down into the finer civilisations across multiple planets.

This Plantoids Species brings with it 15 new cosmetic portraits, new templates, military ships and a spanking new cityscape artstyle. If you’re serious about your Stellaris experience, then you’ll want to have this included in your game. It’ll set you back £6.39.

The best way of doing that is by purchasing the Deluxe Edition of Stellaris, as this includes the Plantoids pack alongside further ones down the line. If you haven’t yet grabbed a copy of the game then the full Deluxe Edition is available for £44.99, whilst the newly released Deluxe Upgrade will sort out those who previously purchased the standard game. This upgrade offering costs £19.99.

Stellaris: Console Edition isn’t a game for the faint-hearted though, and you should be aware that dropping into the universe it brings will see your time snapped up by a hugely in-depth experience. Our full review will let you in on the finer details.
